Crews from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Philomath Fire Department responded around 7:30 a.m. to a structure fire near Northwest Sixth Street and Main Street under a unified command response.

City Manager Mike Sauerwein said when he started two years ago, the city had a focus on getting up to date on its audits.
In the spring of 2025, the city brought in outside CPAs to tackle those audits naming one of those CPAs interim finance director.
The finance director, Sauerwein said, typically inputs numbers into their financial software -- a program through Springbrook Cirrus Finance.
By November, errors were discovered riddled throughout the 2023-24 budget that now puts the city's library, pool, Chamber of Commerce, and other local services and events at risk.
