Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed one person has died as catastrophic flooding swept through the area. Officials have not released any information about the victim.
Emergency crews worked through the night rescuing people trapped by rising water as flood conditions worsened in communities stretching from Kerr County to Uvalde County. - Description
- Before North Bend became known for its waterfront views, downtown businesses and timber industry, it was a small company town built around the water.
Where shipbuilders, mill workers and pioneers helped shape the future of the community.
Today, reminders of that history can still be found throughout the city, from historic buildings downtown to the annual July Jubilee celebration that brings residents together every summer.
“The oldest North Bend was a Simpson company town,” local historian Dick Wagner said. “It existed at the end of today’s Ferry Road.”
That first settlement was founded by pioneer Asa Simpson along the shoreline just south of what is now downtown North Bend.
The area grew around Simpson’s sawmill and shipyard, becoming an important part of the region’s early economy.
Among the ships built there was one that would go on to make Oregon history, the Western Shore.

- Description
- Oregon's Initiative Petition 28 has cleared a major hurdle after supporters submitted more than the required number of signatures to the Oregon Secretary of State.
If enough signatures are verified, the measure could appear on the November ballot.
The proposal would remove exemptions in Oregon's animal cruelty laws that currently apply to activities like hunting, fishing, livestock slaughter, and some animal research. Supporters say it's about expanding protections for animals. Opponents argue it could affect hunting, fishing, farming, ranching, research, and Oregon's economy.
Nothing has changed yet—the signatures still need to be verified before the measure can qualify for the ballot.

Finding a permanent intelligence chief became a priority after Tulsi Gabbard announced in May that she would step down because of her husband's cancer diagnosis.
Clayton, the former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and current U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, was nominated after Republicans and Democrats criticized Trump's decision to install Bill Pulte as acting director.
Clayton had been expected to appear before the committee on June 17, but Trump delayed the hearing while pressing Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, a voter identification bill requiring proof of citizenship for federal elections.

"We don't think we need the military there anymore," Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting, arguing that American oil companies are entering Iraq at unprecedented levels while Iran's influence over its neighbor has sharply declined.
"They're doing partnerships with Iraq, and they're getting along very well," Trump said. "The relationship is a whole big relationship where we don't need the military there."
Trump said Iran, which he described as the "bully of the Middle East," had been so weakened militarily that Iraq no longer faced the same pressure from Tehran.
