Description: 33 full time equivalent staff are set to be cut from Springfield Public Schools (SPS) following the approval of the school district's 2026-2027 operating budget.

According to SPS Chief Operating Officer, Brett Yancey, the reason that staff were the main source for these cuts was due to how much they take up in the budget.

"That's what makes up our budget for a service industry." Yancey said. "So, when you look at the level of reductions that we're looking at, for us it was over seven and a half million dollars. There is no question that staff is going to be impacted at some level."

Out of that 33 staff to be laid off, 12 of them will be teachers. This follows the 27 that were laid off towards the end of January.

Description: 33 full time equivalent staff are set to be cut from Springfield Public Schools (SPS) following the approval of the school district's 2026-2027 operating budget.

According to SPS Chief Operating Officer, Brett Yancey, the reason that staff were the main source for these cuts was due to how much they take up in the budget.

"That's what makes up our budget for a service industry." Yancey said. "So, when you look at the level of reductions that we're looking at, for us it was over seven and a half million dollars. There is no question that staff is going to be impacted at some level."

Out of that 33 staff to be laid off, 12 of them will be teachers. This follows the 27 that were laid off towards the end of January.
