- DOUBLE HOMICIDE | Greenfield police are investigating a double homicide that happened Monday night and now believe the shooting was a targeted attack carried out by rival gang members.
Police said the shooting happened around 10:50 p.m. at the Fast Strip at El Camino Real and Oak Avenue.
According to the police chief, roughly 30 shots were fired by multiple suspects. The victims were identified as a 26-year-old man from King City and his 32-year-old girlfriend from Soledad.
Greenfield police Chief Guillermo Mixer said investigators believe the shooting may have been in retaliation for a deadly shooting in Soledad last month that killed a King City man following his daughter’s soccer game.
Police said multiple Flock and surveillance cameras captured the suspects’ getaway car, and investigators have developed several strong leads they believe will lead to those responsible.

- After more than 25 weeks, a severely injured bald eagle has been released into the wild, SPCA Monterey County said.
The SPCA said that when the bald eagle arrived on Dec. 21, 2025, he had a broken coracoid — a bone essential for flight — and showed signs of electrocution.
However, through weeks of care, medication and specialized physical therapy, the bird regained the strength and precision needed to survive.
He was released on Friday. After a brief pause, he caught the wind and soared away.
“Support from compassionate donors makes our work possible. The SPCA is not a chapter and does not have a parent organization, so we rely on our community to help animals like this bald eagle. Thank you for giving this eagle the chance to recover and fly free again. To help, please give at www.spcamc.org/eagle,” the SPCA wrote.
