- Description
- Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is facing one of the most challenging stretches of her tenure.
After a shooting near a public event forced her to be rushed to safety, Wilson spoke out, saying she was unharmed and emphasizing the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence. The incident—while not believed to be targeted — has put renewed focus on her public safety approach and leadership in high-pressure moments.
At the same time, questions are mounting about Wilson’s communication strategy. Recent interactions with the media, including moments where staff intervened during interviews, have drawn attention to how her administration is handling scrutiny and difficult questions.
Wilson has also weighed in on major economic issues, including corporate expansion and job shifts to other cities, and the impact of the state’s new “millionaires tax” — all of which factor into how Seattle is perceived by businesses and investors.

- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed on Tuesday that the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the U.S., which has held for more than three weeks, remains intact, despite a new exchange of fire in the Strait of Hormuz, as Washington moves to restore the free flow of commerce and protect commercial shipping.
"No, the ceasefire is not over," Hegseth told reporters. "Ultimately, this is a separate and distinct project, and we expected there would be some churn at the beginning, which happened, and we said we would defend it, defend aggressively, and we absolutely have."
Iran opened fire on Monday on U.S. warships, prompting the U.S. military to destroy six Iranian small boats, according to Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Officials said the fast boats were lightly armed and represented a limited threat compared to U.S. naval capabilities.
President Donald Trump warned Iranian forces they would be "blown off the face of ...

- President Donald Trump hosted a small business summit at the White House on Monday, highlighting what the administration says are major economic gains for small business owners.
The event comes as part of National Small Business Week, with more than 130 business owners from across the country expected to attend. Participants represent a range of industries, including manufacturing, food production, defense, energy, and retail.
A key focus of the event was the administration’s tax policies aimed at small businesses. The White House says the president highlighted provisions from the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, part of a broader tax package signed into law last year. The policy made the 20% small business tax deduction permanent and allowed full expensing for new equipment, factory construction and research investments.

The decision comes as part of a broader lawsuit over activity at the park, where nearby residents have raised concerns about public safety and alleged illegal behavior, including lewd conduct and drug use.

- Rain or shine, there are hundreds of children across our state whose classroom is the great outdoors.
Washington was the first state in the country to license outdoor, nature-based child care. There are currently 28 Outdoor Nature-Based Programs (OPP) serving preschool and school-age children licensed by the Department of Children, Youth and Families, and even more private outdoor preschools.
Foothills Nature School in Enumclaw is one of those private schools.
The day starts with a familiar preschool tradition: morning circle time. The kids gather around their teacher for songs and stories, raising their hands with questions and comments. But soon, the morning turns less traditional.
There are cries of, "That's a really big worm!" and "a frog!" as kids run through fields of grass and puddles of mud.

From May 1 through Sept. 30, both Golden Gardens Park in Ballard and Alki Beach in West Seattle will close at 10:30 p.m., instead of 11:30 p.m.
The earlier summer curfew has been in place at both locations for at least the past four years, after incidents of violence, excessive noise and illegal fires prompted action from the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department and Seattle police. Those issues have persisted in recent years.
This summer, Seattle Parks and Rec announced that they'll have one to two private security guards on patrol at Golden Gardens, to try to deter the various issues that have been shared by park-goers and nearby residents.--------------------------------------------------

In a letter to Congress, President Donald Trump said hostilities with Iran have “terminated,” despite the continued presence of U.S. troops in the region — a position that allows the administration to sidestep the May 1 deadline to seek authorization for ongoing military action.
“The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” Trump wrote to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
Trump also acknowledged the conflict may not be fully resolved.

If changes aren’t made within the next year, experts warn borrowing costs for major projects could rise sharply — potentially costing taxpayers billions.
In this full interview, Treasurer Pellicciotti explains what a “negative outlook” really means, how it could impact taxpayers and future projects, whether state leaders are prepared to change course, and what could happen if Washington’s credit rating is ultimately downgraded.
