- If you're looking for new swag at Lumen Field, you can find it at the team store in section 140, with help from Eugene Berry. Eugene works at games for both the Seattle Sounders and the Seahawks.
"I love football," Eugene said. "I was raised around it, and this is where I've always wanted to be. There was no other thing I wanted."
But that dream was complicated by the fact that Eugene uses a wheelchair to get around.
He grew up coming to games with his grandparents, who were season ticket holders.
The first time he was old enough to vote, he cast a ballot to approve funding for what is now Lumen Field. He also volunteered on a committee to help make sure the stadium was accessible to wheelchairs.
"I take this very seriously," Eugene said. "I love being here. This is my home away from home."

- An Issaquah-based nonprofit is helping veterans receive dental care they otherwise might struggle to afford.
Everyone for Veterans connects eligible veterans and their spouses with volunteer dentists nationwide who provide free, comprehensive treatment. The organization says only about 8% of veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs health care system qualify for VA dental benefits, leaving the majority of veterans on their own to get dental care.
For Dr. Jacy Nelson, volunteering is an extension of his own military service. He spent the first four years of his career as a Navy dentist, including a year at Whidbey Island and three years in Japan, before moving into private practice in Renton.

- Seattle’s job market is falling behind other major cities, and now business leaders are pressing city hall for a course correction.
A new report from the Downtown Seattle Association found the Puget Sound region ranked 20th among the nation’s 30 largest metropolitan areas for employment growth from 2019 through 2025.
Regional employment has been nearly flat since 2022, growing by less than 1% a year on average.
In Seattle, some 18,000 jobs have been lost since 2024, and many of those reductions were among businesses located in the downtown core. Meanwhile, Bellevue added 5,375 jobs, and Tacoma gained 662.

- A King County judge has ruled against leniency for a Hawaii-based graffiti tagger who prosecutors say violated sentencing terms.
Kyle McLaughlin, known as “WESH,” is required to spend five months in King County Jail after a hearing Wednesday where prosecutors said he broke conditions while on electronic home monitoring.
McLaughlin, who is currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii, must return to Seattle by Oct. 14.
The court decided he will serve five months in jail, then complete one month of graffiti abatement as part of the remaining six months on his sentence. He must also meet all other previously set requirements.

- Two new reviews released Wednesday revealed that the Seattle Police Department (SPD) generally followed surveillance rules in 2025 but also raised some concerns, according to the Seattle Office of Inspector General (OIG).
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson previously paused expansion of surveillance cameras until a separate commissioned audit by the NYU Policing Project is complete.
OIG found that SPD established appropriate policies for its Technology Assisted Public Safety pilot program and said officers and RTCC employees appeared to limit the use and sharing of surveillance information to approved crimes and incidents.

- Victoria Nizzoli was brutally attacked in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park in February 2024. Her attacker, Nicholas Matthew, was sentenced earlier this year to 22 years in prison for the random attack that happened in broad daylight.
Nizzoli was stabbed multiple times and nearly died, but several people on the trail heard her screams and one person was able to kick the suspect off of her.
Matthew escaped that day but was arrested about a month later following an intensive manhunt.

The report found there is no set policy governing how Seattle police can use SDOT's traffic cameras at the department's Real-Time Crime Center.
SDOT's cameras are meant to monitor traffic on city-owned streets in Seattle, but since last year, some of them have also been used at the Real-Time Crime Center to track crimes happening on city streets.
According to the report, SDOT does not have a formal policy on sharing camera feeds with SPD. The report comes as some residents continue to push back on funding and expanding the city's CCTV cameras.

- A brutal, broad daylight assault on a woman in West Seattle has sparked renewed calls for more surveillance and cellphone video, as well as a reward offer, while police search for five suspects.
Four suspects were captured on camera surrounding and attacking the 51-year-old woman. She survived the attack but suffered serious injuries.
“To have somebody assaulted in broad daylight in a parking lot — there are no words for it. It is shocking!” said Chris Mackay, executive director of the West Seattle Junction Association.
The attack happened in The Junction, a West Seattle neighborhood, Thursday. It was 6 p.m., while it was still light out, when the 51-year-old woman was walking to her car in a parking lot surrounded by businesses and high-rise apartments.
“To be honest, it was a complete shock,” Mackay said.

- Two young men were killed in a shooting Monday morning near the Interstate 5 overpass on South 272nd Street in Kent, police said.
Kent and Des Moines police officers were dispatched at about 10:43 a.m. to S. 272nd Street near the I-5 overpass after multiple reports of a shooting. Callers to 911 reported that two people had been shot and that the suspect car had fled the area.
Officers arrived and found two victims inside a vehicle, then pulled them out to provide medical aid. Puget Sound Fire and King County Medic One personnel also responded and provided emergency medical treatment, but both victims died from their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Homeless people living in recreational vehicles have returned to a parking lot on the south side of Woodland Park near Green Lake.
It is the same location that has been cleared out at least twice before in recent years.
“The RVs have come in at the end of August, and they have really put a footprint into the upper gravel lot, which is the area that the high schoolers crossed through,” said John O’Leary, who coaches and organizes several youth cross country teams.
The RVs are set up in a gravel lot that borders N 50th St. They have become a major obstacle for youth sports leagues that use the public park for competitive events as well as training.

While fewer than 1% of Washingtonians will pay into the tax, it would earn the state an estimated $3.5 billion each year, which would help keep the state budget well-funded as Washington faces major money shortfalls.

Her newly revised book, Kurt Cobain: Forever in Bloom, attempts to change that.
Catlin spent years speaking with people who knew and worked with the Nirvana frontman… friends, early bandmates, managers, recording engineers and other musicians… to build a portrait of Cobain that focuses less on the circumstances of his death and more on the person they remember.
“I think the biggest inconsistency is that he’s defined by his death,” Catlin told KOMO News. “Because he isn’t, and he shouldn’t be.”
