- When Kailee and Nick Pederson learned their family would be growing from three children to five, the news was at first overwhelming.
Just as Kailee and Nick adjusted to the idea of twins, at 13 weeks, an ultrasound raised concerns about Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS).
It’s a rare condition that happens during pregnancy when identical twins share a placenta and one twin gives blood and nutrients to the other, risking severe complications. It's dangerous for both babies, and often the twin that gets the extra blood is sicker and goes into heart failure.
The Pedersons turned to a specialized team at Seattle Children’s Fetal Center and Dr. Bettina Paek.

- A district decision in North Kitsap is raising questions for one Silverdale family after learning that the Special Education Intensive Support Program at Hilder Pearson Elementary will move next year to Vinland Elementary in Poulsbo. District officials say the change is a response to low enrollment and should not disrupt the services students receive.
For Katelyn Small, whose 6-year-old daughter Tessa is partly non-verbal and autistic, routine is essential to her progress. She says the program has provided important consistency for her child, and she is concerned about how the transition could affect Tessa academically and socially.
The district says it believes the move will strengthen services and have minimal impact on staffing. It also says families will be involved in meetings to develop individualized transition plans. Small says she has since filed a complaint with the state superintendent’s office over the school change.

Earlier this year, residents along 14th Avenue West — between West Barrett Street and Gilman Road — were notified that the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) would be banning parking on the street.
The move was prompted by SDOT after the Seattle Fire Department reported that it could not pass through the avenue while trying to respond to a call for service. "Can you put name tags on?" he joked with reporters during the Q&A portion of the news conference.
Rubio started the briefing by discussing the ongoing war with Iran, saying the nation's top leaders are "insane in the brain." He described it as a "vicious regime" run by "radical" Shia clerics.
"The world is a victim of Iran because they are terrorists, because of what they are doing now in the Strait, but the people of Iran are daily victims of the regime and the president has deep sympathy for what they are going through," Rubio said.

State lawmakers recently passed a 9.9% tax on income above $1 million, which is a significant shift for a state that has long avoided a traditional income tax.

- Signs of improvement may be emerging for gray whales migrating north along the West Coast, after recent weeks that included reports of thin and sometimes emaciated animals offshore and malnourished whales stranding along the Washington Coast.
Last week, a NOAA Fisheries survey team spotted the first gray whale mother and calf reported swimming north along the northern Washington Coast and captured video of the pair. The mother appeared to be in fair shape, and the calf looked “especially plump, happy, and energetic,” according to the notes.
NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center is counting the number of mothers with calves migrating north this spring, with results expected this summer.
Biologists with NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center Marine Mammal Laboratory, observing migrating whales from Willapa Bay to the northern tip of Washington, also reported that the gray whale migration may have slowed. They said they saw no actively mi...

At the same time, the discussion acknowledges steps taken by city leadership on key issues like homelessness and shelter planning, highlighting the complexity of Seattle...
