Little Spotted Horse was back in court on April 15th for sentencing, where he received 18 months on the assault conviction and 12 months on the Terroristic Threats conviction. Judge Andrea Miller ordered the sentences to run consecutive to each other, but did receive 74 days credit on the aggregate sentences.

- Scotts Bluff County’s Transit Manager has fired a warning shot across the bow of County Commissioners, telling them federal and state rural transit funding for TriCity RoadRunner services will be much less than hoped for in the new fiscal year.
The topic came up as Curt Richter asked for the Board’s input Monday on a letter he had written, asking the state’s federal delegation for help in securing more transit funding.
Richter said he had received a letter last week from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, telling him the county’s federal award would be nearly $243,000 less for the year starting July 1, and the state award would be almost $59,000 less than the current fiscal year. “They actually went back to the previous fiscal year’s actual expenses, and calculated what percent each agency would get based on their actual expenditures from last fiscal year. This fiscal year I think was a little bit skewed,” said Richter. “You know, y...

- Doug Stratman is just getting the 2026 planting season underway in northeast Nebraska.
After putting just one acre in the ground, Stratman had to pause and troubleshoot a planter issue with his starter fertilizer flow meter before continuing — a reminder that even the smallest equipment issues can slow things down during the busiest time of year.
As planting ramps up, he’s also thinking through bigger management decisions across the farm. That includes protecting corn from rootworm pressure by adding insecticide in the starter and experimenting with planting soybeans in 30-inch rows instead of the 15-inch rows he’s used in the past.
For Stratman, planting season isn’t just about getting seed into the soil — it’s about making the small adjustments and management decisions now that can help protect yields and set the crop up for success later in the season.

- Company officials and staff were joined by a handful of city officials as Amazon officially celebrated the opening of their Gering Delivery Station Monday.
Operations started late in October last year, one of four new Amazon delivery facilities built across the state, and it's been a hive of activity ever since.
Local Operations Leader Brian Gudmundson says the 7-day a week operation has 60 staff working the sorting line, and 80 drivers for the daily Flex delivery routes.
That daily package rate has risen to between 4,000 and 4,500 during special delivery days such holidays and Prime days, and to date, just under a quarter of a million packages have been delivered to the local region since it opened.
Amazon officials say since 2010, the company has contributed more than $1.5 billion to the state economy, and as of the end of 2024 had more than 2,000 full-and part-time staff in Nebraska.

The dogs were in poor health, with bones visibly showing, sores on their backs, and possible mange.
A neighbor was able to help police contact the homeowner-- Anne Leach-- who arrived three hours later. She told police she was aware of the home and animal's conditions.

- Scottsbluff Public School District's Director of Finance Marianne Carlson presented the Board of Education the district's 2026-2027 budget priorities during the April Board Meeting.
One area of emphasis is the district facing financial pressure due to state-imposed revenue caps and rising costs.
Carlson says while revenue growth is limited to about 3%, expenditures such as salaries, benefits, transportation, and utilities continue to increase at higher rates.
For the 2026-2027 budget, modest increases in state aid and property tax revenue are expected, but they are offset by significant cost increases, resulting in a projected budget shortfall of about $1.1 million.
To address this gap, the district is proposing several reductions, including the closure of Lake Minatare Elementary School at the end of the school year, staff reductions, and administrative cuts.
Officials also discussed future planning efforts, in...
