The expansion includes much of the eastern two-thirds of Wyoming, northeast Colorado and the Western Slopes, plus additional transmission routes in Montana, northern and north central Arizona and south central Utah.
The milestone makes SPP the first regional transmission organization with services spanning two interconnections.
Officials say benefits include enhanced reliability, lower wholesale energy costs through regional dispatch, transparent and independent grid governance, and efficient planning that supports economic growth.

He thanked lawmakers for their work on the budget, saying “We passed a fiscally, historically conservative balanced budget by decreased spending, by using idle pillowcase money, and increasing revenue, while we ensured services improved, not cutting them.”
Pillen also challenged lawmakers to work toward solving the state’s property tax crisis when the 110th Legislature convenes in January of 2027.
He said, “My team has taken executive action to ensure Nebraskans are seeing property tax relief. But the people of our state deserve more. We need to get practical, set aside ideology, and solve this decades-old problem.”

- The idea of a regional juvenile detention center for the Panhandle is starting to gain traction among officials in the region.
Last week, Scotts Bluff County Commissioners approved an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement to fund a needs assessment for a facility to be located in the county, with the cost of the study to be shared with other counties based on population.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Troy Brown discussed the issue with the Board, explaining some of what the study costing no more than $55,000 would entail.
Box Butte County officials have already expressed an interest in taking part in the study and others are being approached, with Brown noting it costs as much as $280 per juvenile per day to house them in eastern Nebraska or Iowa, not counting the cost of transport.
While state and federal funds could be available for such a project, Board Chair Mark Harris said a consortium could be formed of counties buying into facility ...

- Nebraska officials announced a new effort to strengthen the integrity of the state’s ballot measure process, calling it a major step toward protecting elections from outside influence.
Governor Jim Pillen was joined by Secretary of State Bob Evnen, and Senators Bob Anderson and Bob Hallstrom during a Wednesday morning news conference.
Pillen said that while Nebraska already had laws restricting foreign involvement, recent election cycles revealed loopholes that allowed foreign-linked money to enter ballot campaigns.
The measure also establishes significant financial penalties for violations, including fines equal to or greater than the amount of the illegal contribution. Officials say these stricter consequences are intended to deter attempts to bypass the law and prevent future instances of foreign money entering the state’s election system.
