- An investigation is underway in Waipahu after Honolulu firefighters battled an early morning fire at Leeward Drive-Inn.
The Honolulu Fire Department was called to the iconic eatery just before 4:30 a.m. on Friday. Fire crews arrived a few minutes later.
Capt. Jacob Pekelo of HFD said the fire was developing as crews arrived.
"The first company arrived and they found nothing showing, which isn't uncommon. They searched out back, found some light smoke and when they came back out front, that's when they noticed it was fully involved."
Capt. Pekelo added that firefighters faced some access issues as well.
"The restaurant is heavily fortified. There's been a lot of break-ins over the years, so it took them a bit to get through. When they got inside, they found that the kitchen area was fully involved and they started fire suppression tactics."
HFD searched the structure and confirmed no one was inside at the time...

The event is free and open to the public at the Gandhi Statue in Waikīkī.

- NBA training camps continued on Oahu Thursday as the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers moved closer to Sunday’s preseason exhibition game at Bankoh Arena.
The Warriors are holding camp on the North Shore, while the Clippers are training in Manoa. For both teams, the preseason provides an opportunity to get younger players on the court and acclimated to the speed and physicality of the NBA.
