- Troutdale residents will vote on two ballot measures in the November midterm elections that will impact public safety and how it's funded in the city.
One measure is an advisory, non-binding question from city leaders: Should the City proceed with planning and the creation of a Troutdale Police Department?
The other ballot measure is a proposed property tax levy that would fund all public safety expenses for Troutdale.
Money from the levy, which would cost homeowners $1.60 per $1,000 of assessed property value, would exclusively fund police, fire, and 911 services.

- Description
- A Portland Thorns fan says she and others were removed from Providence Park during Saturday’s match against the Washington Spirit after a stadium employee told them he had been made aware of something “transphobic.”
She also says she and her group were told to leave the Sports Bra, because they wore clothing that said "XX-XY" on them.
The Portland Thorns said the group was removed because they were distributing unapproved materials, which violates the stadium’s Fan Experience Guidelines.
Amy Sousa said the situation began with a social-media post inviting people to attend the game wearing clothing from XX-XY Athletics, a brand that says sports should be designated on the basis of sex.
“There's two sexes; there's men and there's women,” Sousa said. “And XX-XY Athletics really stands firmly that sports should be designated on the basis of sex.”

- Portland councilors take vacancy fee off the table after city study

- Description
- A controversial proposal to charge owners of vacant commercial properties in Portland is off the table for now. The development comes as Portland continues to deal with record-high vacancy rates in downtown office buildings.
“There’s empty office space, and there’s empty residential units, and we need to come up with a solution,” Council President Jamie Dunphy told KATU in May.
Market data from Colliers, a real estate firm, found the city’s office buildings had a nearly 28% vacancy rate in the second quarter of this year. Downtown, it was even worse at just under 39%.
Last year, councilors approved a study of whether charging owners of long-vacant commercial properties could help bring life back to empty storefronts and office buildings.
Property owners panned the proposal.

Transportation officials expect longer travel times and additional congestion on nearby streets, including North Williams and North Mississippi avenues.
In these full-length interviews, Marty Lemke, owner of Circle Round, and Stacee Wion, owner of Spielwerk Toy, discuss what the closure could mean for their North Portland businesses.
Lemke says some regular customers are already concerned about traveling to the neighborhood during the closure.
“We've had a few people say they're not looking forward to making the journey over here in the next month or two,” Lemke said.
At the same time, she sees the possibility that increased traffic could introduce new customers to businesses along Williams...

One resident said he has captured dozens of skunks on video in recent nights.
“Basically, I don't have a backyard anymore,” that neighbor, who didn’t want to be named, told KATU.
He said the skunks regularly wander through his yard overnight and have even sprayed one of his dogs.
“They wander around from about 7:30 at night to 7:30 in the morning,” he said.
Multiple neighbors told KATU on Sunday that they have noticed more skunks in the neighborhood and in their backyards.
Mike Ray, who has lived in Sellwood for 40 years, said he has never seen so many skunks in the area.
“We've had these skunks that we've seen in our backyard, and they've sometimes been against the garage and against the basement...
