- Many Trail Blazers fans said the recent draft term sheet from the city of Portland to the team represented a “serious offer” and progress in a years-long effort to secure a long-term commitment from the Blazers to stay in Portland.
“I was very impressed. I didn't think they were going to put forth something so team friendly, at least in my opinion. I think it's a good deal for the team,” said fan and season ticketholder Josh Sargeant.
The city administration shared its draft term sheet last week before full approval from city councilors. A number of councilors have said they’d propose amendments to the document when the council reviewed it in August.
The team’s position is also unknown, though Jason Quick with The Athletic reported team sources told him the deal is a “non-starter.” A Trail Blazers spokesperson only told KATU the team received the draft term sheet and is reviewing it.

- DEEP DIVE: Could America stop changing the clocks? Congress takes major step

- Description
- For generations, Americans have followed the same routine twice a year: setting clocks forward each spring and back each fall. Now, Congress has taken one of its biggest steps yet toward ending that tradition.
The House has approved the Sunshine Protection Act, legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent across most of the United States. If the measure ultimately becomes law, Americans would no longer turn their clocks back every November, ending the twice-yearly time change that has long been the subject of debate.
Supporters argue the current system disrupts daily life for little benefit. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., who introduced the legislation, said changing the clocks twice a year interrupts Americans' schedules "for no good reason."
Backers of permanent daylight saving time say keeping later sunsets year-round would encourage people to spend more time outdoors, benefit businesses that rely on evening customers and eliminate ...

Investigators say the shooting at a Northeast Portland 76 station quickly led detectives to uncover a series of violent crimes allegedly involving the same group, including an armed carjacking, another gas station robbery, and multiple armed confrontations.
Portland Police credited the rapid response of patrol officers, detectives, and specialized units for identifying the suspects and making arrests less than 19 hours after the shooting.

- Description
- The city of Portland publicly shared the draft term sheet it sent to the Trail Blazers, including a $573 million funding contribution from the city, county, and state.
The 14-page legal document is titled “Moda Center – Arena Renovation and Post-Renovation Operations Term Sheet”. It also outlines the government’s request that the Blazers commit to a payment in lieu of taxes amounting to $3 million per year, escalating 5% annually over the life of the deal.
That clause – if agreed to – means the team would pay $106 million over the life of the lease; it would be split between the city, county, and Portland Public Schools.

- Pres. Trump's 'very big' announcement concerning election integrity; Oregon Sec. of State responds
- Runtime

- Description
- President Donald Trump used a primetime address to the nation Thursday to raise doubts about the results of past elections.
Trump’s speech presented allegations of interference and influence in ways that lacked key context, and did not produce evidence that votes had been manipulated or that the election outcome had been altered.
Trump began Thursday night with a stark warning about what he described as flaws in the voting system and said he was releasing previously classified documents related to the 2020 and 2018 elections, when he lost the presidential election and his party suffered losses.
He did not raise doubts about his election wins in 2016 or 2024.
“America is back and doing really well, but we still have a major challenge that must be urgently addressed, because no country can be great without fair and honest elections,” he said.
He said all Americans should be assured their elections are free of cheating...

- Description
- President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Thursday night, where he discussed election integrity and the security of elections in the United States ahead of the 2026 midterms.
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is immediately declassifying what he described as election integrity documents that he said reveal "shocking vulnerabilities" in the U.S. election system.
He said the records are intended to expose alleged systemic issues, including claims of Chinese interference and concerns tied to a Michigan voter registration investigation, rather than undermine confidence in elections.
Before the announcement, Trump highlighted his economic agenda, including the "One Big Beautiful Bill" and TrumpRx initiative, and renewed his call for Congress to pass the SAVE Act, arguing it is a key part of his broader election security agenda.

It comes weeks ahead of a scheduled council vote on August 12 to approve a tentative term sheet and just one day after Mayor Keith Wilson accused the team of withholding essential details on the project.
“When you get into these type of negotiations, they're tough. Yes, the city has asked and requested certain information from the Blazers and we have not received that. We've had communication with the Blazers and had verbal conversations with the Blazers. That's what has taken place thus far,” city administrator Raymond Lee said after an executive session on the term sheet.
“I believe the Blazers are waiting on a term sheet before they really start opening up into negotiations with us and start getting some of that cri...
