- A proposal that would reshape Portland's live theater industry will be decided by a key vote in a committee of city leaders Tuesday.
The City Life Committee will weigh a partnership with Portland State University to build a new 3,000-seat venue capable of hosting Broadway productions as part of a new academic building.
Estimated to cost roughly $450 million, the venue would be built on the site of the current University Place Hotel on Southwest Lincoln Street.
Under the proposal, the Keller would continue running Broadway productions until the new venue is open in 2030. Then the Keller would be renovated with seismic upgrades and downsized by at least 40% to become a smaller venue.

- OHA says asbestos levels near Centennial Mills fire in Portland are low as collapse risk remains

- Description
- Asbestos released by a fire at the Centennial Mills warehouse in Northwest Portland does not pose a major risk to the public, according to officials with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
A toxicologist with the OHA told KATU they’ve sampled debris since Sunday's fire and found low levels of asbestos in the area. They said air monitoring shows asbestos concentrations are very low and are expected to continue decreasing over time.
Health and fire officials have continued monitoring the warehouse in the Pearl District as crews waited to see whether the fire damaged the building enough to cause a collapse. The building remains at risk of collapsing as conversations are being held to demolish the building before that happens.

- Shocking video shared by Gresham police Wednesday shows a shooting at a low-income apartment complex in Gresham that critically injured a teen Saturday afternoon.
The video shows three teens walking through the Rockwood Village apartment complex near Northeast 188th Avenue and East Burnside Street just after 2:30 p.m. Two are wearing hoodies — one red and one gray. The teen in the red hoodie also appears to be wearing a black face covering.
The teen in the gray hoodie appears to brandish a handgun and hold it up as if preparing to shoot. The teen wearing the red hoodie then appears to pull out a firearm and begin shooting. All three back away and turn a corner. The teen in the red hoodie then comes back into view and advances while brandishing what appears to be an AR-style rifle, which he appears to fire repeatedly.

- As another stretch of hot weather settles over Oregon, thousands of students are spending part of their summer in classrooms that were never designed for today's warmer climate.
Many older school buildings still lack air conditioning, creating uncomfortable learning environments during periods of extreme heat. The problem becomes even more complicated during wildfire season, when unhealthy smoke can make opening windows impossible.
School leaders say aging facilities are becoming more than a comfort issue—they're increasingly affecting student health, safety, and learning.
At Memorial Elementary School in McMinnville, the challenges are easy to see.

- When wildfire smoke settled over Portland and pushed air quality into unhealthy territory, Alvin Johnson Sr. did not have to wonder what the children inside his preschool were breathing.
A newly installed ventilation system was continuously bringing fresh, filtered air into Packy Playhouse and Preschool in Portland's Montavilla neighborhood, the in-home child care business Johnson operates with his family.
“We have air conditioning, but this is like, I’m calling it air conditioning on steroids because it’s like fresh, clean air every time you come in. It’s not like a fan blowing or air conditioning blowing, "Johnson said.
The system is part of a Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund-supported program renovating in-home child care centers to better protect children from extreme heat, wildfire smoke and other unhealthy conditions.
