According to Houston police, officers initially observed the driver running red lights and driving recklessly at high speeds just after 2 a.m., , on West Montgomery before the suspect fled. The pursuit lasted about five minutes and ended after the Corvette suffered a flat tire and crashed into the building.
Firefighters extricated the male driver and a female passenger, both believed to be in their 30s. They were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Deputies were dispatched to a major vehicle crash at the intersection of Aldine Westfield and Wood River. Upon arrival, they found a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider, identified as an off-duty deputy riding his personal motorcycle, was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene. EMS and fire department personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
