He says that while his allegations had indeed been documented, the files also show little was done to protect him.

- Description
- Bee farmers on the Prairies are running into some major issues in the middle of honey production season. With a late start to spring and the looming threat of U.S. tariffs, most beekeepers may be looking at a below-average crop this year.
“Our biggest concern is we really only have three markets for our Canadian honey. It either stays domestic within Canada, it goes to the U.S., or Japan.
So losing the U.S. market basically means an extra 20% of Canadian honey either staying in Japan or trying to find those new markets,” Simon Lalonde from the Saskatchewan Beekeepers Development Co. said.
As Ashley Beherns reports, while Lalonde has full confidence in Canadian negotiators, he says it’s a great time to buy local.

- Global National: July 25, 2026 | Growth in BC wildfires forces more evacuations

- Description
- The wildfire situation around Clinton, B.C., remains volatile. Firefighters spent the night protecting the community as another day of active fire behaviour threatens to push the Big Bar Complex even further. As Taya Fast reports, officials say they aren’t expecting any meaningful rainfall to combat the wildfires.
The smoke from Canadian wildfires is drifting south of the border and appears to be top of mind for the U.S. president. Donald Trump is again threatening tariffs, blaming Canada for not doing enough to prevent the wildfire smoke crossing the border. Jillian Piper has more on Trump’s latest threat, and concerns that federal government cuts are hurting its wildfire response.
The federal government shut down plans to expand Bill Bishop Toronto City Airport on Friday, citing concerns about public space, housing, noise and environmental impacts. But as Lexy Benedict reports, the province isn’t giving up its push for larger flights just yet.

- Description
- The record number of wildfires burning in France and Spain are being fuelled by a drought that’s stretching across much of Europe. But those dangerously dry conditions aren’t simply the result of a lack of rain – it’s the heat.
In southwestern France, the local mayor calls it a “worst-case scenario,” and civil protection believes it to be France’s worst wildfire ever recorded.
In Spain, similar conditions are having the same impact. The country has already recorded four times more wildfires than last year. One man called it an “ecological disaster,” with a forest he calls “Spain’s largest lungs" threatened by fire.
As Mike Armstrong reports, scientists worry this summer is a sign of wildfire seasons to come.

- Mosquito counts in Saskatchewan are way up this year, with numbers up year over year and beating the 10-year average. In Saskatoon traps, there was an average of 168 last week. That’s compared to five mosquitoes per trap last year at this time.
Regina has 12 traps throughout the city with an average of 200 last week. Last year, it was an average of 10. Just outside of Regina in rural areas, there were over 400 compared to just eight in 2025.
City of Saskatoon entomologist Georgiana Antochi-Crihan says rainfall and hot weather make for the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. And while this is a huge increase, it could feel like more because of years of drought.

- A new UBC study found extreme heat can damage leaves and dramatically increase water loss, reducing a plant's ability to absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.
Researchers say current climate models do not account for these effects, which could accelerate climate change as temperatures rise.
“These increased water loss rates have really big implications for climate change,” explains UBC assistant professor Sean Michaletz.
Despite the findings, researchers say plants still have some ability to adapt, and stress that strong climate policy can help protect their role in regulating the Earth's climate.

Trump addressed journalists from major news organizations with whom he has frequently clashed over coverage and access.
The annual gathering of journalists, politicians and administration officials at the Washington Hilton hotel was called off on April 25 after a man tried to force his way through a security checkpoint and fired a shotgun outside the ballroom where Trump and members of his cabinet were taking their seats.
The suspect, Cole Allen, pleaded not guilty in May to charges that include attempting to assassinate the president.
The dinner was moved to the Waldorf Astoria hotel and held under heightened security.

- This Week in Washington: Trump slaps Canada with 10% tariff over concerns about "forced labour"

- Description
- It has been an interesting week in Washington, with U.S. President Donald Trump taking significant actions against friends and foes. Trump said 50 per cent tariffs were coming to Canada because of what he perceives to be "unfair trade practices" by Canada.
Moreover, the administration put a 10 per cent tariff in place on Friday morning, linked to Section 301, which was an investigation into the use of forced labour for goods that are imported into the United States.
Concerning the war on Iran, Trump has threatened to further the conflict by hitting things like power plants and bridges.
Also: a deal was announced earlier this week between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, allowing a pathway for the latter to get a civilian nuclear program.
Reggie Cecchini has the details.

- Description
- Canadian government officials marked the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor, Ont., to Detroit, Mich., on Friday, without the U.S., after President Donald Trump threatened steep new tariffs on Canada.
The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on July 27 under a revenue-sharing agreement with the United States, struck after Trump delayed the opening by more than a month.
"This bridge is a testament to what we can build when we work together. And it represents the partnership, the resilience, and the belief that investing in the future strengthens us all," Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson said Friday.
Robertson had said in a statement previously that celebrating the opening alongside the U.S. would "not be appropriate." He was joined by Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkins.
Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is visiting a national park in Newfoundland and Labrador, did not attend...

- Vancouver’s mayor held an emergency meeting with the city manager and police chief Thursday after a bizarre public hearing that received many calls from the U.S.
Mayor Ken Sim said overseas callers were trying to “clog up our system,” calling it an act of foreign interference.
A hospitality union claimed it organized some out-of-town speakers, arguing the plan benefits developers without guaranteeing affordable housing.
Vancouver police are investigating whether the calls meet the threshold for foreign interference and could refer the case to the RCMP.
Travis Prasad reports.

- Description
- Canadian officials are gathering in Windsor, Ont., today to celebrate the opening of the Gordie Howe bridge, which crosses over the Detroit River, connecting Canada and the U.S.
Despite this being a cross-border bridge, Canada and the United States will not be celebrating the opening together, after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Canada with new tariffs of up to 50 per cent Monday.
Canada has spent $6.4 billion to build the bridge, which was entirely funded by Canadian taxpayers, with Prime Minister Mark Carney telling reporters on July 16 that “splitting of tolls, any sharing of the toll, won’t happen until all of the debt is repaid.”
The agreement released by the federal government contradicts this statement, outlining that for the first 15 years, Canada will split revenue 50/50 with the U.S.
The bridge is set to open on July 27, after several months of delays, and will generate revenue mainly from drivers paying a tol...

- Alberta Premier Danielle Smith on Thursday spoke with Global News’ Chief Political Correspondent David Akin about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s trade negotiations with the U.S.
Carney “initially put something on the table that the Americans were quite interested in. We saw back in October there was a discussion around an energy partnership and uranium and critical minerals and that ended up falling apart for… there were a few things going on at that time. I hope we can get back to that place because I think that’s really the core of how we’re going to get to a comprehensive trade agreement,” Smith said.
Smith continued: “Let’s talk about the big things we know the Americans are looking to secure the supplies of, we’ve got lot’s of it.”

- Description
- Canada’s opposition house leader Andrew Scheer is calling out Prime Minister Mark Carney for "misleading the Canadian people" amid controversy stemming from details in the Canada-U.S. contract for the soon-to-open Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Though he said Thursday he should have been clearer in his initial messaging, Carney previously claimed 100 per cent of the toll revenue would be collected until Canada was repaid the $6.4 billion construction price tag. The official contract, however, states 50 per cent of the revenue will go to the U.S. for the next 15 years.
“[Carney] told Canadians [they] would be paid back first, that the construction and debt servicing costs would be factored into this,” Scheer said in a Thursday press conference, adding, “Now we know that just wasn't true. Mark Carney saying that he could have been clearer is the closest we'll get to a Liberal admitting that they deliberately misleading Canadians.”

The ruling states Google broke digital antitrust regulations by setting up Google Play and its ubiquitous search engine to steer consumers towards its own services and apps to the detriment of competitors.
U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer took issue with the ruling, calling it “intellectual property theft” while accusing the EU of targeting competitive American companies.
Google, however, now has 60 days to comply with the European Commission’s orders treat rival competitors in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.
