- The government sought parliamentary approval to transfer public transport assets to the National Bus Company Limited. Minister of Transportation, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, took the Public Transportation Investment Bill, 2026, to the House of Representatives today. The bill seeks to approve and confirm the government’s investment in the company, including the transfer of certain public transport assets. It also provides for proposed exemptions from taxes and duties. NBC is an entity guided by a board, rather than managed by the Ministry of Transportation or the Department of Transport. Defending the upgrade of the NBC was Freetown’s Area Rep Francis Fonseca.
The proposed legislation addresses the company’s assets and investment arrangements. Separate motions brought to the House today sought approval for NBC’s operating concessions along the western and southern corridors.

He reported that seventeen operators initially joined and another has since come on board, with three more expressing interest. Alvarez shared a video showing an aircraft’s route near Belize’s offshore islands. He says it entered airspace over Belize’s territorial waters, circled for about forty minutes, then switched off its transponder before returning to Guatemala. He accused the military of misleading President Bernardo Arévalo and urged the president to make changes within the institution. At a press conference yesterday, Arévalo maintained that the reported flight did not happen. He said Guatemala had made the aircraft available to the Organization of American States for a review of its flight records.

The loan motion, already approved by the House of Representatives, would authorize borrowing twenty-three-point-five million US dollars from the World Bank’s International Development Association. The money is for the Early Childhood Development and Female Empowerment Project. The project calls for sixty new classrooms at primary schools in communities that need preschool services, along with upgrades to thirty existing preschools. Around eighty early development centres would also be established or improved. The aim is to give more children access to early learning and help women who cannot work or pursue training because they lack childcare. Espat took over on June 22, while retaining his responsibilities for Infrastructure Development and Housing. His temporary assignment followed Oscar Mira’s leave of absence as the Auditor General examined procurement matters connected to Mira’s previous tenure at the Ministry of Defence. - Church Senator Reverend Louis Wade Junior is pushing back against calls to decriminalize abortion in Belize.
