The data released by the government about hospital deaths suggests that the UK peaked on the 18th April, with the latest figures showing the fewest deaths in a fortnight.
Hospital admissions data also reveals a similar decrease over the last few weeks.
How should this data be interpreted?
This does not mean that the lockdown should end, and the government stressed fears of a second peak if restrictions are lifted.
But the data does allow us to understand how the disease has been spreading.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?
Coronavirus infects the lungs. The two main symptoms are a fever and a dry cough, which can sometimes lead to breathing problems.
The cough to look out for is a new, continuous cough. This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or having three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual.
You have a fever if your temperature is above 37.8C. This can make you feel warm, cold or shivery.

- Strict new measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the UK have been put into place across the country – but the government has faced criticism that the shutdown rules have caused confusion for workers, especially those working in the construction.

The new measures, in place for at least three weeks, tell Britons to only leave home to go to work "where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home”.
The measures, announced by ministerial broadcast on Monday 23 March, further state that people may only leave home to exercise once a day and shop for essential items and fulfil any medical or care needs.
Shops selling non-essential goods have been told to shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together will be prohibited.

The government is now not only moving fast to try to curtail the virus, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has effectively revolutionised the economy, pledging to pay 80% of wages for every worker who has had to stop work, up to £2,500 a month.
The British government has also announced it is to close its clubs, cafes, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres.
Restaurants can remain open for takeaway and home delivery.
