Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D'Orsi said despite warnings not to hold "unlicensed music events", many were being staged across London meaning hundreds of officers taken away from local boroughs, with many having their leave cancelled or shifts changed.

She said the force had received more than 30 calls from residents on the Woodberry Estate near Finsbury Park on Friday who were scared to leave their homes as about 200-300 "youths were fighting and smashing up property".

"I wanted to share with you the footage from a colleague's body worn camera which shows what they faced upon arrival, and I ask the question 'could you or would you want to do their job?'

Description: Children in London are currently entitled to Oyster cards allowing free or discounted travel, depending on their age. But Transport for London (TfL) announced free travel for children would temporarily end as part of the government's £1.6bn lockdown bailout conditions.

Josh, 14, chair of Young Advisors Lewisham, uses the passes to get to school, volunteering and the shops. He started an online petition and wrote to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps asking him to reverse the decision.

The Department for Transport said: “We want to assure him that the decision about under-18 travel is a temporary measure to help tackle the spread of Covid-19 and reduce the risk of crowding on our transport network.”

Slave trader statue removed from outside London museum

Description: A statue of noted slaveholder Robert Milligan has been removed from outside the Museum of London Docklands. Sadiq Khan earlier announced a review of all of London's statues and street names, saying any with links to slavery "should be taken down".

On Sunday, anti-racism protesters in Bristol tore down a statue of slave trader Edward Colston.

Milligan's monument was removed to "recognise the wishes of the community" said the Canal and River Trust.

There were cheers and clapping as the monument was lifted from its plinth using a crane.

The Museum of London Docklands said the statue of the prominent British Slave trader, who owned two sugar plantations and 526 slaves in Jamaica, had "stood uncomfortably" outside its premises "for a long time".

It comes after petitions were launched to remove statues of controversial people around London, such as Robert Milligan in West India Quays.

The Metropolitan Police say they are seeking to identify those responsible for the damage to the memorial.

Description: Hundreds of people have attended three all-night events in London and it's understood more are planned. BBC Radio 5 Live's Investigations Unit was tipped off about raves being advertised on a private Instagram page.

Police say they attended two of the gatherings but no arrests were made. The organisers dispute the events are raves and claim it is a community of people exercising to house music.

They say the events are not for profit and they will be implementing safety measures such as PPE for staff and taking the temperature of those attending before they are allowed in.

Even with these steps in place, such events are currently not allowed.

Description: Thousands of people have gathered across central London to protest against the killing of an unarmed black man by police in the US.

They held up signs saying "Justice for George Floyd", who died in police custody while an officer kneeled on his neck to pin him down.

Derek Chauvin has been charged with his murder in Minneapolis. The white police officer has been sacked from his job.

During the protests Met Police officers arrested five people.

The protests have been held at Trafalgar Square and outside the US Embassy in Battersea.
