NEW YORK (AP) — Victor Wembanyama shook off his miss at the buzzer in Game 2 by taking over Game 3 of the NBA Finals and preventing the San Antonio Spurs from getting pushed to the brink of elimination.
Wembanyama made the first two shots he attempted on Monday night on the way to scoring 32 points in a 115-111 victory at the New York Knicks. He had nine points in the first five minutes, including an alley-oop on the first basket of the game and a dunk on the next possession and was a force on both ends of the court, especially late when it mattered most.
Wembanyama was a key to San Antonio building an early lead but even more importantly in a third-quarter rally to bounce back from another blown double-digit lead.

“It’s crazy, it’s totally different than in England, it's totally different, it’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Cherise Sherdley-Davis, a visitor from Blackpool, England.
After three years of buildup and hype, the week is finally here, it’s the Route 66 Centennial 100th anniversary. It’s not just in Amarillo, it’s from one side of the Texas Panhandle to the other.
“We’ve got a 100-year-old building that was in that matches the 100th year of Route 66, and it really does help our local economy in our area,” said Greg Conn, director of the Milburn-Price Museum.
Rural communities like Vega depend on tourism, and what better way to host a centennial event than to have people come not only from the United States but from other countries to stop in Vega and see the attractions.

- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- Shelf clouds point out from the base of a storm and tend to be very long, sometimes as long as the parent storm. They form when colder, more dense air at the surface causes warmer air ahead of it to rise. As it rises it cools and the water vapor condenses, forming a shelf looking cloud.
Wall clouds are smaller and usually below an area of the storm receiving little to no precipitation. They point either straight down or slightly inward. They form when the updraft (mitochondria of the storm) strengthens, causing cooler air to lower closer to the ground. This cooler air allows for water vapor to condense, forming clouds. A wall cloud usually rotates along with the updraft.
Funnel clouds are the smallest of these and like wall clouds, point straight down or slightly inward. They can also be curvy! They form below a wall cloud when the updraft strengthens and pulls in horizontal rotation from the surface.

- Description
- Amarillo city leaders are weighing changes to how the city maintains its parks after residents raised concerns about upkeep in some of the community’s most-used public spaces.
Whether it’s families on playgrounds or residents out for a walk, Amarillo’s parks see daily use. But concerns about maintenance and overall conditions prompted an update from city officials, including discussion at the most recent City Council meeting.
At that meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kashuba spoke about the current state of the city’s parks and addressed issues residents have been talking about.
Mayor Cole Stanley said a key challenge is funding and suggested the city may need to rethink its approach.
“Maybe the way forward is to rely less on employees and more on private companies. And maybe the way forward is to not have as many parks,” Stanley said. “We have a lot of big, open, sprawling parks that could be used for other...

- Investing in producer-driver research is something Texas Wheat Producers is doing to provide answers for area wheat growers.
“We see a real need to invest producer dollars in research that will eventually get back in their pockets in terms of better wheat performance,” said Steelee Fischbacher, executive director of Texas Wheat Board Producers & Association.
After enduring one of the more challenging growing seasons for both dryland and irrigated winter wheat on the High Plains, Texas Wheat Producers has announced their going to invest $400,000.00 in 16 research projects for the 2026/27 growing season for winter wheat on the High Plains.
“So, this year we were able to approve about $400.000.00 that’s through wheat breeding, better agronomy practices, testing of different varieties that we think will benefit farmers through better performance, knowing more about the wheat that they're growing,” said Fischbacher.

- Outflow boundaries form when the downdraft within a storm strengthens, causing more air to rush to the ground. That air then spreads out, traveling out from the storm. This can occur quickly, causing strong, even severe winds. In some cases, it can help aid new storm development and organization by acting as a lifting mechanism.

- A new initiative called "A Home for Every Child" is working to ensure every child who enters foster care is placed in a licensed foster home or with relatives.
According to Saint Francis Ministries, about 1,000 children in the Texas Panhandle are currently waiting for a permanent home.
Tracie Jackson with Saint Francis Ministries said the region continues to face a shortage of foster homes, forcing some children to be placed far from their communities.
"Currently, about 30% of kids that are removed are placed out of region, meaning outside of the Panhandle," Jackson said. "So a lot of those are going to Houston or Dallas. And it's obviously a big culture shock."
Jackson said one reason for the shortage is the extensive training and licensing process required for foster families.
"There's so many hours of training that they're expected to do before a child can enter their home," Jackson said. "In addition to that, we need ...

Amarillo’s Digital Dignity, Rights, and Privacy Advisory Board was created under the city’s Digital Dignity, Rights, and Privacy Ordinance, which established guidelines for how the city handles personal data and digital technologies.
Jake Blok, co-founder of Digital Rights House and a board member, said the board’s job is to gather information, set priorities, and provide guidance to the city.
“The role of the advisory board is to get that and prioritize and then give advice to the city,” Blok said.
He added that the work goes beyond the board’s meetings and includes outreach.
“And then it's important that more and more sources of information are scattered. So it's not only the four times the board comes together, but i...

- Election officials at the state and local levels are calling on the United States Postal Service to speed up delivery of absentee ballots during future Wisconsin elections.
It comes after hundreds of voters' ballots sent in for the April election arrived too late, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The WEC said that prompted concern about the delivery speed of mail-in ballots.
"There was a lot of complaints that came from election clerks, municipal clerks, that were saying that it took a long time for ballots to return. Some of them were late in being returned," WEC member Marge Bostelmann said.
A recent letter from the WEC to USPS said two-thirds of Wisconsin clerks reported problems with receiving mail-in ballots during last month's election. Bostelmann said it was the most complaints the WEC has ever gotten about late delivery of ballots.

- Two weeks after a landfill fire tore through thousands of acres and left dozens of families without homes, relief efforts in the Texas Panhandle are shifting from donated goods to financial help as survivors face a long road to recovery.
The fire destroyed 52 homes and damaged 25 more, burning more than 2,500 acres and leaving families with little to salvage. While community support has poured in since the fire, organizers say the biggest need now is money to help victims rebuild their lives.
Janell Evans, director of the 211 Texas Panhandle United Way Helpline, said disasters bring sudden upheaval for people who are unprepared for the changes that follow.
“With all disasters, they're all traumatic. They all have created a huge lifestyle change in someone that they were not prepared for,” Evans said. “They're having to start from the ground up. They're having to pick up and leave and start over again, whether it be just for a single person o...
