- Description
- The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has concluded, but the case is not yet moving to trial.
After a week of surveillance footage, DNA evidence, recorded witness statements, and testimony from investigators, the judge overseeing the case has asked prosecutors and defense attorneys to submit additional legal briefs before deciding whether there is sufficient probable cause to bind the case over for trial.
Speaking with The National News Desk, former federal prosecutor and former Acting ICE Director Jonathan Fahey said the delay is unusual given the purpose of a preliminary hearing.
"This is really bizarre because this is just a preliminary hearing determining whether there's probable cause to send this to trial," Fahey said.
According to Fahey, the evidence presented publicly during the hearing already appears substantial.
"So far, the evidence is absolutely overwhelming," he said....

Trump phoned into the broadcast to speak with host Kristen Welker about his longtime ally and friend. He said Graham was a "tough one" to lose and reminisced about the short-lived political rivalry between them during Trump's first presidential campaign in 2019, calling him a "tough cookie."

The Town of Waynesville says that since March, only two projects have been approved, one being the Water Treatment Plant Watershed, amounting to $83,750, and the other being the Bioretention Area, amounting to $24,577.
"We've had a little over 100,000 dollars approved since March, and that's just pennies in the bucket on 3.5 to 3.6 that's still outstanding," said Ian Barrett, finance director for the Town of Waynesville.

Public Works Slope, which is estimated to cost $450,000
Wildcat subdivision, which is estimated to cost $500,000

"I got into it initially because I got in an accident where I ruptured my median nerve, and I found out that Lion's Mane has good benefits when it comes to nerve health," he said.
Mooney started out with Lion's Mane but went on to other varieties of mushrooms, such as Oyster and Cordyceps. He learned the necessary growing techniques primarily from the internet and books. He said it was a daunting task since recreating the proper environment for a mushroom to grow can be very complicated.
First, a solution containing the mushroom spore is injected into grain and allowed to grow. This is then distributed to bags of wood chips. It is especially important that these bags are first completely sterilized in a large steamer=-09 l

"Everything is so volatile and gas prices are so unpredictable and reactive that they could continue going up," AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz said. "The national average remains $3.84 right now. We were paying that a week ago. Now, when this all began on February 28, the national average was $2.98. So we've come a long way since then, but it's just too early to know how long this will last."
When crude oil prices rise, prices at the pump are quick to follow, but when oil drops, gas stations often take longer to adjust.

The hearing follows an emotional first day in court that included surveillance video, witness testimony, and arguments over evidence involving Robinson's former roommate, Lance Twiggs.
Judge proceedings also addressed whether portions of Twiggs' recorded statement should remain sealed. The court ordered certain redactions after prosecutors argued the material included text messages, chat logs, and a handwritten note connected to the investigation. Members of the Kirk family had urged the court to release the statement in its entirety.

Wishon’s remains were found buried on a property on Pebbleston Lane June 27, 2026, after the sheriff’s office received a missing persons report.

- Description
- Lawmakers in North Carolina are considering new regulations for consumable hemp products.
House Bill 328 would ban hemp-derived consumable products with a total THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content of more than 0.4 milligrams per retail container. This bill would also ban the sale of any hemp consumables to anyone under 21.
Franny Tacy, the CEO of Franny's Farmacy, says this bill would put retailers who are specific to hemp products out of business.
"A 0.4 total THC cap per package is ludicrous. It would be essentially like saying you can no longer buy a beer, you have to buy that beer in a shot glass and buy 12. That's why I say prohibition by dosage," she said.
Tacy said they're already self-regulating, verifying that their customers are 21 or older. But with this legislation, they wouldn't be able to sell a single gummy in this package.
"We have built a nine-year legal hemp industry. Let us regulate that and thrive instead of c...

- If you drive through Asheville or have a security camera outside your home or business, the Asheville Police Department's future Real-Time Intelligence Center could involve you.
The center is expected to bring cameras, license plate readers, body cameras, car cameras, drones and other technology into one system during active calls and investigations.
APD says the goal is to help officers see what is happening before they arrive. But the project has also raised questions about privacy, access and who verifies whether the system is being used properly.
The room where the center will be built does not look high-tech yet. The video wall is not up. The workstations are not filled. The space still looks more like the old communications area it used to be than the real-time technology hub police say it will become.
Still, APD expects the center to be fully operational by spring or summer 2027. The project is being funded through more than $1...

- A damaged Flock Safety camera in Rutherfordton has reignited debate over the use of license plate reader technology, with thousands weighing in online after police shared a photo of the vandalized device.
The Rutherfordton Police Department posted an image of the damaged camera on social media, where the post quickly gained more than 20,000 comments. While some users condemned the vandalism, others praised the person responsible, with comments including "Not all heroes wear capes" and "Give them a medal."
Local law enforcement officials said there is too much misinformation online about the cameras.
"We're seeing a lot of misconceptions that these cameras collect more data than they actually do," said Capt. Ryan Bailey with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. "The camera itself is only capturing the vehicle traveling down the road."
Bailey said Flock cameras do not record video. Instead, they take still images of passing vehicles ...

- Description
- President Donald Trump arrived in Turkey on Tuesday, where he received a welcome ceremony from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of a high-stakes NATO summit expected to focus on a Trump-backed push for higher defense spending, Europe's security responsibilities and continued support for Ukraine.
Ahead of Trump's arrival in Ankara, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previewed the summit's agenda on Monday, calling on allies to present "clear, concrete and credible" plans to meet the alliance's new 5% defense spending target — a goal strongly backed by Trump — while stressing the need to ramp up weapons production and maintain long-term support for Ukraine.
"Over the next two days, 32 #NATO Allies, along with partners from Ukraine, the EU, the Indo-Pacific and the Gulf will gather here in Ankara to ensure that NATO continues to deliver," Rutte wrote alongside a video on X.

According to Henderson County Permits and Inspections Director Crystal Lyda, building plans have been submitted for a Texas Roadhouse in the Blue Ridge Mall area. - A new North Carolina law is changing how the state handles involuntary mental health commitments, expanding treatment options and requiring state agencies to develop new behavioral health programs to keep people connected to care longer.
Governor Josh Stein signed the bill on Monday, July 6. Local supporters say the changes could help reduce the cycle of repeated hospitalizations and involvement with the criminal justice system.
"They call it a revolving door because it's very true," said Robin Payne, executive director of NAMI Western Carolina.
The legislation doubles the maximum length of court-ordered outpatient treatment from 90 days to 180 days. It also expands the use of telehealth evaluations, increases access to mobile crisis units and strengthens connections to mental health care.
"If they're doubling the requirement for an outpatient, that's wonderful. And the supports need to be in place, meaning if you are homeless and you...

- North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein signed the state's new $34.4 billion budget into law on Tuesday, July 7, calling it a compromise that makes meaningful progress while acknowledging the state still has work to do.
Stein said the budget includes several of his major priorities but noted it still leaves North Carolina lagging behind neighboring states and does not do enough to support low-income residents or veteran teachers.
Stein praised the budget's investments in education, saying it delivers the largest pay raise for beginning teachers in nearly 50 years and the largest overall teacher raise in more than 15 years. He called the funding an important investment in students but said public schools have faced years of chronic underfunding and that additional investments will be needed, particularly for experienced educators.
The budget directs $12.5 billion toward K-12 public education, making education the state's largest investment and accounting fo...
