- Description
- A Lansing-based nonprofit that has spent more than a decade helping families overcome one of the most common barriers to healthcare -- transportation -- is expanding into Southwest Michigan with a new pilot program in Kalamazoo County.
The Davies Project announced it is now offering free rides to medical appointments for children with serious health conditions, pregnant people, and families with babies in neonatal intensive care units. Leaders say the expansion is designed to help families who might otherwise miss critical care because they do not have reliable transportation.
For many households, especially those already juggling illness, multiple appointments, work schedules and financial stress, simply getting to the doctor can become a crisis.

This led the president's Rapid Response Team to publicly call out reporters in the room for not asking the astronauts questions about their journey to space.
Trump was also asked when Americans can expect to see UFO-related documents.
"It's been on the minds of people for a long time. They want to find out about the UFOs, and we're going to be releasing a lot of things that we have, and I think some of it's going to be very interesting to people," Trump said.

- Family of 8-month-old killed by drunk driver seeks changes to Michigan law

- Description
- On April 26, 2025, the Seifried family gathered on the beach of Base Line Lake, when tragedy struck. In moments, Lucia Seifried was yet another victim of drunk driving.
Last month, Terry Lee Boss was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the crash that also injured Lucia's father, Matthew Seifried, and the family's dog.
The Seifrieds forgave Boss, but will never forget the tragedy, with many painful reminders.
The case exposed what the Seifrieds see as shortcomings in Michigan law.
From a lack of sentencing guidelines for drunk drivers that injure or kill someone to suspects keeping their license while cases make their way though courts.
Most shocking to the Seifrieds, however, was the insurance law that allows Boss' passenger to attempt to claim a pay-out.

The State Department said Tuesday that it is preparing a limited release of commemorative U.S. passports celebrating America’s 250th birthday that feature a picture of President Donald Trump, who would be the first living president to be featured in the travel document.
The concept for the special passport, including a rendering of Trump’s stern-looking visage, had been under consideration for months before finally being approved late Monday. Between 25,000 and 30,000 of the new passports will be available to applicants at the Washington, D.C., passport office beginning shortly before July 4.

The program focuses on treatment, supervision and long-term stability instead of jail time. It’s an effort to break a cycle that has long tied mental illness to repeated arrests, incarceration and emergency care.
But as the court continues to evolve after nearly two decades, it also raises broader questions about accountability, access and whether a treatment-first model can be sustained as demand grows.

In the Westnedge Hill area, four people were trapped inside a home. KDPS said no one was hurt.
In Kent County, however, a 39-year-old man lost his life while warning his friends of falling trees during the severe weather.
Just before one of those trees came down, the man's friends told deputies that's when he warned them to move out of the way -- ultimately saving their lives.
