- Low Severe Risk: Showers, Isolated Storms, and Beneficial Rain Ahead-Bob Jeswald 11PM Weather Update
- Date posted
- Description
- Right now, there’s not much instability at the surface or support in the upper atmosphere, so the chances of strong to severe storms in east Alabama and western Georgia are low. We will see a few isolated thunderstorms along the line with gusts to 40mph.
We’ll keep watching things and update if anything changes. Of course, this has been beneficial for rain, and like everyone else, we’ll gladly take it.
The tornadoes and severe storms moving into Alabama overnight aren’t expected to ramp up much since there’s not a lot of energy to work with. So right now, I’m mainly expecting a round of showers with a few embedded storms overnight.
WEATHER AWARE(Marginal 1 out of 5): Late Wednesday, along the front and appears to more south of U.S. 80 Phenix City -Columbus line across east central Alabama and west central Georgia.
Thursday-Saturday: The rain will taper off early Thursday morning, and the pattern will take a break for th...

- Storms Ramp Up Tonight with Damaging Wind Risk, More Rounds Ahead Through Saturday-Bob Jeswald-4/28/
- Date posted
- Description
- A period of active weather is unfolding across East Alabama and West Central Georgia, with the greatest concern arriving this evening.
We are Weather Aware from 8 PM through Midnight, as showers and thunderstorms increase in both coverage and intensity. The highest risk is focused along the western edge of East Alabama, including Chambers, Lee, Macon, and Bullock counties. These areas are under a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather.
The primary threats tonight include isolated damaging wind gusts, pockets of large hail, and the possibility of a brief spin-up tornado. Storms are expected to organize into a line before gradually weakening later in the night.
Areas farther east across the rest of East Alabama fall under a marginal risk (1 out of 5), where the main impacts will likely be heavy rain and gusty winds. As the system continues moving east, storms will transition into periods of showers with embedded thunderstorms across West...

- Rain Chances This Week — Limited Impact, But Watching a Few Storm Risks-Bob Jeswald-4/27/2026
- Date posted
- Description
- We’re tracking three separate opportunities for rainfall in the First Alert Forecast this week, though none look especially strong at this time.
The first arrives early Tuesday morning, bringing a few light showers to start the day. Rainfall will be spotty and generally light as the system weakens quickly.
Another round moves in early Wednesday morning. While this system is also expected to weaken, there is a marginal (very low-end) risk for isolated damaging wind gusts, mainly across southeast Alabama. Most areas will simply see scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.
The third chance comes Saturday morning, tied to an area of low pressure developing over the northern Gulf. Right now, it looks like a glancing blow with early-day showers and storms. However, if that system tracks farther north, rain coverage could increase.
We’ll continue to monitor all three systems closely and update you as conditions evolve.

- Dry conditions cause brushfires; Rain in the forecast
- Date posted
- Description
- Dry conditions have started brush fires in the area and are making fighting the South Georgia fires difficult. As of 5PM Friday, the Pineland Fire is over 30,000 acres and dry conditions are making it difficult to suppress. The Brantley Fire is over 7,000 acres, and shifting winds have caused more evacuations.
The Weekend: Our next front is set to arrive later tomorrow, and with it, a chance for rain. Scattered storms are set to enter early Saturday afternoon. We are not ruling out one or two strong storms.
Next Week: Rain chances will start to ramp up again by the middle of the week. We can thank our second cold front for this. Stray storms will develop late Tuesday, with more scattered storms likely on Wednesday.
Between both fronts, rainfall totals aren't too impressive. Across the region, totals will likely be below 2 inches.
Once the front clears early Friday, the end of the week will dry back out—the big change....cooler t...

- Preparing for Severe Weather: Supporting Columbus Hospice Staff and Families-Bob Jeswald visits-4/23

- Description
- At Columbus Hospice, giving back to those who care for our community is always a priority. Their nurses and administrative teams provide invaluable support to patients and families every day, and we’re proud to partner with them in return.
Each year, we take time to highlight why weather awareness should remain top of mind—especially for traveling nurses and local staff who are often on the move. This year’s discussion focused on severe weather safety and how preparation can make all the difference when conditions turn dangerous.
Important questions came up during the session, including how to locate nearby storm shelters and how to plan ahead before life-threatening weather strikes. These conversations are a reminder that staying informed and prepared is essential not just on the job, but at home as well.

- Store fronts located in Uptown Columbus on Broadway say they have seen the impacts of Market Days on Broadway, a weekly event that allows vendors to sell their merchandise.
Roger Stinson, the successor of Chancellors, a clothing store that’s been in Columbus since 1873 says the Market Days are good to them. He says it has helped build clientele locally, nationally and internationally.
The same rings true for Lexiee Campbell, the owner of Flowers on Tenth as she has had two orders from Canada and one from Australia. However, other flower vendors have set up shop near her, but Campbell doesn’t see it as competition due to the difference in target audience.
Campbell also says that there is enough room in this world for people to do what they’re passionate about.

- For the rest of this forecast, conditions remain dry as strong high pressure stays in control. We’ll need that system to weaken before any real rain chances return.
That shift looks to begin late Saturday and continue into early next week, as the high-pressure ridge starts to break down. Even then, storms don’t appear especially organized, but a few could develop in the form of mesoscale convective systems.
Temperatures will also be on the rise. Afternoon highs climb into the lower 80s by the end of the week.
Morning lows start off cool, with Tuesday beginning in the mid to upper 40s. By Friday morning, temperatures will be milder, ranging from the mid to upper 50s.
Overall, the First Alert Forecast stays mostly dry through the week, with limited and scattered storm chances returning this weekend.
