- Bob Weather Update 3/31/2026-Moist Gulf Air Brings Spotty Storms Before a Rainy Easter
- Runtime
- 3:17
- Date posted
- Description
- The Bermuda High continues to pull moisture northward along its western edge from the Gulf, setting the stage for a stretch of unsettled weather. As this moisture moves over increasingly warm surface temperatures, it helps air rise and develop into scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms.
For now, rain and storm chances will remain inconsistent—some areas seeing brief downpours while others stay dry. This hit-or-miss pattern is expected to continue until a cold front begins to approach the region and brings more organized weather.
Looking ahead to Easter Sunday, conditions appear wetter overall, with periods of showers and a few embedded thunderstorms likely throughout the day. Temperatures will hover in the mid-70s, keeping things mild despite the rain.
Relief arrives next week, as cooler and sunnier conditions are expected to settle in behind the front, bringing a more pleasant and stable weather pattern.

- Description
- In the backyard of Phil Scoggins, a small wooden birdhouse hung quietly from a tree, swaying just a little in the breeze. Inside, five tiny chickadee eggs rested in a soft, carefully built nest. They were pale with delicate speckles, nestled close together as if sharing warmth even before they had hatched.
The mother chickadee knew this birdhouse well—it was safe, tucked away from predators, and sheltered from wind and rain. She would return again and again, slipping through the small opening and settling gently over the eggs. Inside that little wooden home, she kept them warm with steady patience, her feathers puffed just enough to cover every inch of the fragile shells.
From the outside, Phil might only hear the faintest rustle or see the quick flutter of wings. But inside the birdhouse, life was quietly unfolding. The mother turned each egg carefully, making sure they developed just right, never leaving them for long.
Then one day, the stilln...

- Rising Storm Chances as Heat and Humidity Build Ahead of Easter Cold Front-Bob Jeswald Columbus, Ga.
- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- A stretch of warm, dry weather continues, but changes are slowly brewing in the atmosphere.
The forecast over the next few days will bring scattered “pop-up” showers and storms—hitting a few spots while leaving others completely dry. While these brief downpours may offer temporary relief, they won’t be enough to ease the region’s ongoing dry conditions.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s, with humidity ticking upward as a strong Bermuda High pushes in moisture-rich, subtropical air. Combined with daytime heating, this setup will help spark isolated afternoon and evening storms.
Better chances for more widespread rainfall arrive later this week. Friday afternoon could bring a more organized round of showers and storms, followed by another opportunity late Easter Sunday into early Monday morning as a cold front moves through.
This front may also produce a few strong storms before ushering in cooler air to star...

- Description
- We’re heading into a warm and sunny afternoon with temperatures quickly climbing into the mid-80s. A few high clouds may pass by, but overall it will feel quite warm for this time of year—perfect for getting outside and enjoying the sunshine.
Later tonight, a weak cold front moves through. While it won’t bring any rain, it will usher in cooler air and set up breezy conditions for the weekend.
Saturday morning starts off noticeably cooler, with temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s. By the afternoon, dry air and gusty winds up to 30 mph will create elevated fire danger. Due to these conditions, a Red Flag warning criteria is being met, and a Fire Weather Watch is in effect. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
By Sunday morning, some areas could briefly dip into the upper 30s, with most locations in the 40s. Temperatures will recover nicely during the day, reaching the low 70s—much closer to normal for late March.

Over 80% of Georgia is in a serious drought, and nearly 8% is under an exceptional drought. While this is severe, this is nothing compared to 2007, when 64% of the state saw the highest level of drought.
Friday: With clouds returning tonight and more humidity, some areas of fog will be possible in the morning. The end of the work week is set to be even warmer. Highs will be in the upper 80s, and Columbus could tie our record high of 88 degrees set in 1994.
A weak front will arrive on Friday evening. Unfortunately, this will not bring rain to our forecast, and the dry spell continues.
The Weekend: Behind the front, those temperatures will drop into the 70s for the weekend. A Fire Weather Watch is in place across our Alabama counties for Saturday. This is due to expected breezy winds, low humidity, and drought conditions.
