- Are We Too Fragmented for Pop Culture Now?
- Date posted
- Description
- In this episode of Q-Talk, we dive into the pop culture moments that shaped us — bucket hats, boy bands, tattoos you maybe regret, and the music that defined entire eras. From the MTV generation to the Taylor Swift phenomenon, we talk about what makes something stick… and what fades away.
We also explore the bigger question: What actually makes something a pop culture icon? Is it relatability? Escapism? Personality? Timing? Or is it simply the moment in your life when it hits you?
Pop culture isn’t just entertainment. It shapes you — even if it’s just for a season. It influences how you dress, what you listen to, what you rebel against, and even who you become.

- Description
- Do you remember waking up early just to catch your favorite PBS Kids show before school? Or sitting a little too close to the TV while the theme song played? This episode of Q’talk is a full-on trip back to that feeling. We’re talking about the shows that raised us — the ones that taught us how to read, how to be kind, how to be curious, and maybe even how to handle big feelings. From Arthur and Sesame Street to Reading Rainbow and Mr.Rogers' Neighborhood, these weren’t just shows. They were part of our routine. Part of our families. Part of who we became.
There’s something special about PBS Kids. It wasn’t loud or flashy. It didn’t need to be. It felt safe. Thoughtful. Intentional. And now, seeing the next generation grow up with shows like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood feels like watching that same heart carry forward.
If PBS Kids was part of your childhood, this episode will feel like coming home.

- Saturday Night at the Movies: Till the Clouds Roll By (1946)
- Date posted
- Description
- On opening night of his new Broadway musical, Show Boat, composer Jerome Kern, (Robert Walker), reflects on his long career. With the help of a flashback, we see how it all started - with the help of his mentor, composer James Hessler, (Van Heflin).
The story begins with a young Jerry who travels to Europe after growing frustrated with the American Broadway scene and their exclusive taste for European shows. While in Europe, he soon has one of his tunes placed in a successful production. Back home, Jerry's continued efforts seem to be paying off as production begins on his first full show. As Jerry's career blossoms he works with the era's best artists while guiding James' wayward, but very talented daughter, Sally who dreams of becoming a Broadway star herself.
This fictionalized biography of the composer's life served as a platform for many well-known studio performers to put many of Kern's real-life musical works on full display.

- WQLN Radio Programming Changes
- Date posted
- Description
- A famous philosopher once said, “The only constant in life is change.”
Starting March 2, you’ll notice some changes on WQLN 91.3 FM.
Due to the rescission of all federal funding for public media in July, WQLN lost 42% of our budget — about $1.2 million. While a refresh of our radio programming had been under consideration, the loss of federal funding made these changes more urgent as we looked for responsible ways to reduce expenses while continuing to serve our community with quality public media.
The good news: your daily NPR favorites — Morning Edition, Fresh Air, and All Things Considered — along with the local programs you love, aren’t going anywhere.
Brian Hannah, host of Classics, shares more about what this means for our loyal listeners.
