- Innovation in financial services is gaining acceptance in Indonesia, and its benefits are becoming increasingly evident. To bring confidence and trust towards digital financial services among individuals and businesspeople, the World Bank conducted a financial inclusion pilot program and supported financial literacy initiatives of regulators. These efforts aimed to increase ownership and usage of formal financial services by leveraging digital financial services. Get to know the story of Ismail, a fish trader in Eastern Kalimantan and a typical small entrepreneur. He needs cash to buy fish from local fisherfolk and for other transactions. However, once Ismail began participating in the World Bank’s supported Financial Inclusion Pilot project, he learned he could start making payments through mobile phone, and that fisherfolk he did business with could too. - How is it possible that despite multiple pledges and commitments, rapid progress in key technologies, and the implementation of more than 4,500 climate policies, the world is not on track to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement? "Within Reach: Navigating the Political Economy of Decarbonization" discusses within-country political economy as a key barrier to progress. It shows that the political economy is dynamic and that it can be changed to achieve impactful climate action. To do this, the book unpacks four dimensions which hold the key for translating ambition into climate action―climate governance, policy sequencing, policy design, and political process―and it is rich with examples of what has worked and how. - For forcibly displaced people, getting off of humanitarian assistance and connecting with economic opportunity--whether jobs or starting entrepreneurial ventures--is critical to rebuilding lives. Yet doing so is challenging at best. The World Bank's Private Sector for Refugees (PS4R) program helps develop opportunities through a method that helps small and medium enterprises with links to the forcibly displaced grow, so they will be in a position to employ both the forcibly displaced and provide jobs for people from their host communities. In effect, PS4R helps grow the private sector in host communities. The need is great. Worldwide, there are more than 108 million forcibly displaced people, including refugees and the internally displaced. Conflict, instability, resource scarcity, and climate shocks are likely to worsen in the coming decades, potentially resulting in up to 216 million forcibly displaced people by 2050.
