- A new program called Classroom to the Streets, run by the nonprofit Beyond Walls, has helped turn the city of Lynn into a top public art destination in Massachusetts. Today, about 100 murals can be seen throughout the city.
“There isn’t anywhere else in Massachusetts that I think even comes to mind as the same scale,” said Lynn Arts and Culture Planner Marysa Angelli.
The nonprofit offers weekend walking tours to explore the murals and also brings art and tours to other cities, including Haverhill, Holyoke and Fall River.
Classroom to the Streets started last year after organizers noticed that young people enjoyed the mural tours. Now, the program includes artwork ideas from teenagers and teachers at Lynn Public Schools and St. Mary’s High School.

- David Chard served as the 14th and final president of Wheelock College, which closed and merged with Boston University in 2018. Today, the retired educator lives in a small Cape house in Provincetown, where he volunteers as a master gardener at local public schools.
“The garden is a lot of work,” he said. “But for me, it’s therapeutic, and when things work for you, it’s just a tremendous feeling of success.”
Lucy Wheelock founded the college in 1888 as a training school for kindergarten teachers. For decades, the independent college focused on education and social work. By December 2016, just months after taking the top job, Chard says he recognized that the college could no longer survive independently.
The decision to close and merge with Boston University in 2018 prompted angry calls from parents, professors and alumni. Chard had many sleepless nights and his mental health suffered. But he says he had no choice, since the college wa...

Their partners are left to manage what were formerly two-income households and must bear the strain of finding legal help and childcare. Mental health is an expensive, and often unattainable afterthought. Children endure long-lasting grief and anxiety.
“The behavioral health impacts we're seeing aren’t isolated incidents. They are predictable consequences of policies that separate families, create chronic fear, and make an entire community feel unsafe,” said Pietra Adami, organizing director at Brazilian Women’s Group. “This is not just about immigration. It’s about public health.”
