- Winter is finally letting go of its icy grip on the lower 48 and after so many temperature and snowfall records this year, it's a relief to deal with just little weather problems that come along.
In St. Louis, the only problem for early morning drivers Thursday was a few clouds on the ground; the fog rolled in and hung around for a few hours before the sun came up to burn it off.
In Greenville, MI - the snow is on the go. It's melting and because of that, there's been plenty of standing water in low-lying areas, running water on the streets and drain filling torrents all over town too.
With a quick swing East to New York, we see the melt is on there too! In Poughkeepsie, there's still plenty of snow on the ground, but day by day, the daytime warmth is doing a good job of turning solid to liquid, swelling the local creeks, as it does every year. And as the snow disappears, it's clearing the way for cabin-fever stricken folks to get out and get acti...

- Central North Carolina's biggest snow came relatively late in the season this year and after record breaking cold last month, folks in the Tarheel State have been looking forward to Spring-like weather to arrive and today was the day...
The forecast was for a mostly cloudy day in Raleigh and it started out that way... dreary, threatening rain at any minute and just plain grey... but by midday, the sun had begun to peek out of the clouds and that brought folks out to catch some of those most missed warm rays!
All over the city, they were enjoying the blue sky and true spring warmth.
Serina Durrett said, "It's beautiful! It's so nice and warm, I just came out to Starbuck's to get some reading in, just because it's nice outside. It's beautiful; everybody should come outside and do something"
Ben Greene shared her sentiments... "tickled to death, we have been starved for good weather. Our weekly coffee visit out here has been diverted to ...

- For anywhere in the country that's dealing with the constant barrage of Winter weather, all we can say is, we feel your pain and we're ready for Spring too! In Southern Missouri, the middle of the week still looked like the middle of Winter and the Show Me State showed us that they're members in good standing of "the late Winter weather club."
In Anderson, it was a mix of snow that came down heavily for a while and coated the roads, while seriously dropping visibilities at its peak. Highway traffic was still moving, but thankfully slower than usual, as snow kept coming down. And then came the more dangerous, slicker sleet and with it, the highway slide-off accidents.
Heading East, over to Mountain Grove, there was still more snow. The upside of this snowfall was that it was a little lighter and a little dryer, although it still caused problems with visibility for drivers. But as it fell, the state road crews were putting down sand and salt and plowing the hea...

- Old Man Winter just doesn't want to let go this year! Even though meteorological Spring started on the first, you'd never think it when we take a look at Chicago's Tuesday morning commute.
Well before sunrise, the snow was falling heavily over the Windy City, but luckily for commuters, the roads stayed relatively clear of accumulation and driving to work went as usual for most. As the sun came up, the clouds were hanging low over the city, obscuring the impressive skyline and making the city seem a little smaller, for a while.
In Greenville, Michigan, it was a slightly different story. The much smaller city had much more snow and it was definitely sticking to the roads. There was good news for commuters, though, the sand trucks were out early, treating the main roads to try to stay ahead of the fast falling flakes that threatened to slow down the morning's work travel.
Utility crews were already working to solve problems the heavy snow was causin...

- Description
- Wait, what? A TRIPLE rainbow? Yes, one was spotted in southern Alaska last week, and a picture was taken last Wednesday capturing one in Anchorage’s northern suburbs, in the Palmer Hay Flats.
Triple rainbows are extremely rare; as of late 2011, only six had been reported in the previous 250 years! But they’re obviously not unheard of; in fact, in 2011, a quadruple rainbow was reported in Germany.
In short, a rainbow is caused by the bending of light as it enters a raindrop, then reflected, spitting out the white light into the ROYGBIV colors you see on a rainbow. As the light bounces around inside a raindrop, it can reflect again, causing a double rainbow. You may notice – including this photo – that each time the rainbow is reflected, the colors are noticeably fainter.
For background, your back must be facing the sun and you must be facing rain, of course, in order to see a rainbow (again, light traveling through water).

- California's Multi-Billion Dollar Wine Industry Assesses Losses After 6.0 Earthquake

- Description
- Wineries in the idyllic Sonoma Valley have been coping with a record-setting drought for nearly a year. And the lack of rain, searing hot temperatures and lowering water tables have put immense pressure on vintners' bottom line.
Early Sunday morning, California's wine industry took another huge blow. This time the destruction came from below ground.
A 6.0 earthquake, centered about five miles south-southwest of Napa, Calif. gave area residents an abrupt 3:20 a.m. wake-up call as long, rolling seismic waves undulated under their homes and businesses.
The shallow quake, located about six miles below the surface, is the strongest to strike the Bay Area in nearly 25 years. It's a far cry from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake; which killed 63 people, injured more than 3,700 and left thousands of buildings uninhabitable. By contrast, Saturday's quake caused more than 200 injuries — including a child last listed in critical condition at a San Francisco ...
