- The Los Zetas Cartel changed the game in the Mexican War on Drugs. From the mid-2000s, they introduced an unprecedented level of violence – paramilitary-style executions, beheadings, bodies hung from bridges.
But this was not simply psychopathic violence. These were special forces soldiers from the Mexican military – who had received specialized training from the US Army – who had defected, and used their training to become the most feared drugs cartel in Central America.

- The Sidoarjo Mud Flow is an eruption of the world’s largest mud volcano in Porong, Sidoarjo in East Java, Indonesia.
This on-going disaster has been spewing toxic mud since May 2006, displacing thousands of people from their homes, as well as an alarming increase in serious health issues among residents.
The cause of the mudflow has been widely contested with two leading theories. Some believe it was caused by PT Lapindo, a gas & oil company drilling in the region. Others believe it was caused by an earthquake that occurred at the same time as the eruption.
In this episode of “I Was There”, we meet with Harwati, a mudflow survivor who was born and raised in Sidoarjo.

- In 2015, two articles by a blogger named Rachel Brewson on the women's online magazine xoJane went viral. They were about her personal experience as a liberal dating and falling in love with a Republican before their disagreements about Trump tore them apart. She got lots of attention and even appeared on ABC News with her ex-boyfriend to talk about their story.
The only problem was that she didn't actually exist.
Cracks in the story began to show as readers noticed inconsistencies in the blogs, including that the Rachel Brewson on TV didn't look anything like the photo used for Rachel Brewson the author. The character of Brewson had been concocted by the staff of a web money making scheme called Review Weekly that wrote under various fake characters for various real publications. - John Wiseman is a planespotter. He spends his days tracking radio data from planes across the country, logging them and mapping their movements.
He’s noticed lots of weird things over the years, like military contractor planes dropping sterile fruit flies over LA as part of a fruit fly eradication program. When he heard rumours that planes circling over mass protests and riots in Baltimore were related to FBI surveillance, he began an intense research mission, collating seven billion raw aircraft transponder pings.
He found that certain transponder codes were being used by aircraft registered to front companies, many of which used PO boxes also used by the US Department of Justice. He put together a list of hundreds of suspected FBI planes, which the FBI eventually admitted were them. In 1967, the former British Colony saw a labor dispute at an artificial flower factory balloon into unrest that enveloped the city. With the pro-communists and sympathizers on one side, and the colonial authorities on the other, the riots embroiled the city for over a year, eventually leading to a wave of reforms that transformed Hong Kong. Yu-Hung looks back at the city's most violent era of unrest, why he took part, and the echoes of this history in today's protest movement in Hong Kong.

The incident took place amid growing chaos in Jerusalem, as Israeli police fired rubber bullets, tear gas and stun grenades outside the Al Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.
Tensions have escalated ahead of a now-delayed court ruling on whether authorities are allowed to evict dozens of Palestinians from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
