- For years, New Zealand’s suburbs have been terrorized by the power ballads of Céline Dion and Mariah Carey. Since 2010, self-proclaimed Siren Kings have been strapping sirens ordinarily used for tsunami warnings onto their bikes and cars to play music as loud as they can. While they say their love of sounds is a form of creative self-expression and community building, their neighbors say it’s 3am and they can’t sleep.
Local investigators, the Department of Information, set out to meet these Siren Kings, hear from their sleepless neighbors, and try to figure out why they’re playing Céline Dion in the middle of the night.

The California prison system has been undergoing a radical change. Inspired by prisons in Scandinavia, which treat incarceration as an opportunity to rehabilitate inmates, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation launched its own initiative. They called it ‘The California Model.’

- The FLDS broke away from mainstream Mormonism in order to continue the practice of polygamy. They established the community of Short Creek along the Utah/Arizona border to follow their beliefs in isolation.
In 2011, their prophet Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison (plus 20 years) for abuse of two of his child brides, ages 12 and 15.

- Nepal’s Gurung people live mostly in small villages in the vast Annapurna mountain ranges. In this remote region, they practice an ancient tradition of honey hunting where they descend towering cliffs on handmade ladders, to harvest honey nestled under jagged overhangs.
In spring, the Gurung’s honey contains a rare substance called grayanotoxin from rhododendron flowers that’s known for its intoxicating effects. While some accounts say it’s a deadly poison, others refer to it as an aphrodisiac, powerful medicine, and a hallucinogenic drug.
