- When an American Flag starts to show its age with wear and tear, the proper thing to do is to retire it.
There are procedures and expectations in place to retire one correctly.

Schwab and his crew have had a lot of unusual demo requests in the past....
"We’ve worked in a lot of demolition jobs and so forth, but the first time we've had a, put a flag in the ground," said Schwab.
A first because no one has ever asked them to bury a massive concrete American Flag like this before.
"No, we can't say we have," Schwab said.

For now, they're still trying to figure out what exactly sparked the flames.
Chief Brad Drury was on that scene and said from the look of the fire, it was likely burning for an hour or two before people noticed and called it in.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Drury said it appears to have started in the kitchen before burning up into the attic and taking out the roof.

- A 40-year-old man wanted for violating probation was hospitalized Thursday evening after shooting himself while fleeing from law enforcement in Frankfort, according to Michigan State Police.
Around 6 p.m. Oct. 29, troopers from the MSP Traverse City Post, Frankfort police officers and Traverse Narcotics Team detectives were investigating information that the man was staying at an apartment on Anchor Place.
Police said the man had a felony warrant for absconding from probation.
Officers spotted him leaving the apartment and attempted to arrest him, but he ran, prompting a foot pursuit involving an MSP trooper and a Frankfort police officer.
According to MSP, the man pulled out a firearm and shot himself while attempting to flee.

- Roughly 850 registered voters could cast ballots on an issue of statewide interest and impact.
Those voters call Mackinac Island home, and the issue on the ballot affects how all of us get to and from there.
"Well, the ferry service is critical to our operations," said Tim Hygh, former executive director of the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau.

- A 34-year-old man will stand trial in Clare County after prosecutors say he used power of attorney to steal more than $100,000 from an elderly man with dementia.
Donovan Leonard, of Cedar, was bound over to circuit court Wednesday, Oct. 28, following a hearing in Harrison's 80th District Court, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office.
Prosecutors allege Leonard obtained power of attorney over the elderly man in 2023. The two had known each other for many years, and the man was suffering from dementia at the time.
According to the attorney general's office, Leonard later sold assets belonging to the man and took more than $100,000 from his bank accounts.
Investigators also allege Leonard created false receipts and filed them with the probate court to justify the missing money.
Leonard faces six felony counts:
One count of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $100,000 or more, a 20-year f...
