- DescriptionThe Archives of both Houses of Parliament are stored in the Victoria Tower, at the south end of the Palace of Westminster. In preparation for a new project, to digitise the Stone photographs collection (a late 19th century photographic survey of the Palace) the Archives Digitisation team visited the Victoria Tower roof on a number of occasions in November and December 2015, to photograph the current Parliamentary Estate and London. While they were up there, this rain storm passed over London.

The Autumn Statement provides the Chancellor an opportunity to update MPs on the Government’s plans for the economy based on the latest forecasts from the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
In September, the Chancellor wrote to the OBR asking them to publish revised forecasts for the economy and the public finances on 25 November, making this a joint Spending Review and Autumn Statement.

- For a second year, falling poppies were projected onto the Elizabeth Tower from dusk on Remembrance Sunday. The poppies commemorate those who perished in the First World War, with a special focus on 1915.
The poppies continued to fall throughout the evening on Remembrance Sunday, accompanied by the names of battles in which British and Commonwealth soldiers fought and died in 1915.
The projection is a key moment in Parliament’s contribution to the centenary commemorations, which also includes historical and educational resources, access these resources on the Parliament and the First World War pages.

- Every year, the Palace of Westminster Clockmakers, have the huge responsibility of changing the time on the Great Clock when British Summer Time (BST) finishes and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) begins - and vice versa each spring.
The process involves careful precision and split-second timing from the clockmakers. As well as re-setting the time, it gives them an opportunity to make close inspection of the clock mechanism as part of a rolling maintenance programme.
In addition to ensuring the most famous clock in the world is correctly re-set, the clockmakers have 2000 other clocks throughout the Palace of Westminster and the parliamentary buildings to adjust over time change weekend.

- Syria’s refugees are headline news. By July 2015, more than a fifth of Syria’s pre-2011 population had fled the conflict, seeking refugee status in neighbouring countries and further afield. The UK is the second largest bilateral donor to the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
In September, the Prime Minister announced that the UK will take up to 20,000 Syrian refugees over the rest of this Parliament using the established UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) process for identifying and resettling those in gravest need. In particular, he prioritised vulnerable children.
This inquiry, by the International Development Committee, examines the Government's response to the Syrian refugee crisis.

- (There is no dialogue in this video) This is the bell in Parliament's Clock Tower (Big Ben). The bell at the centre of this film is called Big Ben. There are two possible explanations for the bell's name:
- It could have been named after Sir Benjamin Hall, the First Commissioner of Works, who was a tall man and known in the House of Commons as Big Ben.
- It may have been named after a champion heavyweight boxer of the time called Ben Caunt. He fought his last fight in 1857 when it was being decided what to call the bell.

- Guest Curator, Dr Caroline Shenton, author of “The Day Parliament Burned Down”, explores works from the Parliamentary Art Collection documenting the fire that destroyed Parliament in 1834. This great national disaster is a largely forgotten event, yet it changed the face of London and the Palace of Westminster forever.
Dr Shenton takes us through the story of the fire as told in the exhibition and gives an insight into the impact this Parliamentary catastrophe had on contemporaries and history.
The exhibition, presented by the Speaker’s Advisory Committee on Works of Art, is now over but the works displayed can be found at:
