- Description
- Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits. It gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak MP, or a nominated minister.
In most cases, the session starts with a routine 'open question' from an MP about the Prime Minister's engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.
The Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer MP, asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two. If another minister takes the place of the Prime Minister, opposition parties will usually nominate a shadow minister to ask the questions.

- How important are cinemas to the UK's cultural landscape?
The pandemic dealt a huge below to the UK's cinema sector, and box office figures for 2023 show that revenue is 30% lower than pre-pandemic levels. UK cinemas are in a precarious position, with challenges posed by changing audience behaviours, shorter theatrical release windows, rising costs and the need for investment in skills development.
In the first panel, MPs will question the Head of Cinema at Watershed, one of the UK's leading independent cinemas, and the Director of Independent Cinema Office on the role of independent British cinemas in supporting independent films. The Committee could explore the cultural value and programming of these cinemas, how streaming has impacted them, and box office demand for independent films. Their financial sustainability and the BFI's support for them, including through the Audience Projects Fund and the Film Audience Network, may also be discussed.

- Are you ready for longer days? We are, and tomorrow, we’ll be busy changing the time on 2000 clocks across Parliament 🕒
At 1am tomorrow morning, all the UK's clocks will go forward to make way for British Summer Time. Including the Great Clock, which requires a little more attention than most… 🔧
Our clock makers will be testing the clock’s mechanism. They will lower the clock’s weights to stop it running and perform maintenance to keep it in top condition. So, from 6pm on Saturday, the hands will be telling the wrong time, and the bells will also be silenced 🔇
By midnight, the team hope to have the hands telling the new time. By 12:45am, the chimes should return, followed by the bongs at 2am marking the start of British Summer Time. The lights will be switched back on showing the new time of 2am 💡

There are now truly horrific reports of conflict-driven famine emerging in Gaza; and re-emerging again in Sudan; while Yemen has been classed as in a “food insecurity crisis” since at least 2016.
Earlier evidence to this inquiry from community leaders who had set up relief groups in the face of famines or long-term food security testified to the role of climate change and conflict in creating food insecurity. Witnesses emphasised the disruption to farming practices that have traditionally fed local populations by a range of factors: from climate-related droughts to political and economic instability.
They also underlined the necessity of locally appropriate solutions for sustainability, and the importance of personal dignity when developing food secur...

- 🔴 PMQs LIVE: Prime Minister's Questions - 6 March 2024
- Runtime

- The House of Commons Education Committee question MoneySavingExpert founder Martin Lewis and Schools Minister Damian Hinds as it concludes its inquiry on expanding financial education in schools. Mr Lewis appears alongside Russell Winnard, Chief Operating Officer at Young Enterprise, a charity which developed a financial education textbook with Mr Lewis.
They discuss training and resources available to schools for providing financial education; the impact that covid-19 and cost-of-living pressures have had on young people’s perceptions of money; and whether external organisations should have a role in delivering financial education in schools.
In the second panel, Minister Damian Hinds and Kate Dixon, Director of Pupil Wellbeing and Safety at Department for Education, take questions on how financial education can be extended at primary school and post-16 level, and what the Department is doing to ensure the subject is prioritised and protected.
