- Description
- Prime Minister's Question Time, also referred to as PMQs, takes place every Wednesday the House of Commons sits. It gives MPs the chance to put questions to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer MP, or a nominated minister.
In most cases, the session starts with a routine 'open question' from an MP about the Prime Minister's engagements. MPs can then ask supplementary questions on any subject, often one of current political significance.
The Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch MP, asks six questions and the leader of the second largest opposition party asks two. If another minister takes the place of the Prime Minister, opposition parties will usually nominate a shadow minister to ask the questions.

- Description
- Following contentious evidence on labour abuses from Shein and McDonald’s last, the Business and Trade Committee holds the final evidence session in its inquiry Making Work Pay: The Employment Rights Bill, with a look at the reality of employment status, the gig economy and zero-hours contracts.
Does “flexible” - some might say insecure or precarious - work actually foment the conditions for workplace abuses?
Will the provisions of the Employment Rights Bill make effective change for workers and business, in a way that can counter any loopholes and unintended consequences for each?
Sports Direct, part of Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group, committed in 2016 to ending zero-hours but pulled back from implementing the change, and will face questions - alongside union representatives - about the conditions and practices needed to fairly manage workers’ time commitment instead.

- The Business and Trade Committee holds the second evidence session in its inquiry Making Work Pay: Employment Rights Bill, questioning McDonalds, Tesco and the British Retail Consortium as well as Chinese global online retailers Shein and Temu on labour rights in their national operations and international supply chains.
Companies like McDonalds have vigourously defended the “option” of zero-hours contracts, claiming it offers valuable flexibility for workers.
But beyond the obvious impacts of low wages and insecurity, do these contracts exacerbate power imbalances in the workplace in a way that risks and perpetuates abuses?
How do franchises and retailers like the witnesses appearing today ensure their operations uphold labour rights and standards throughout their global supply chains, especially where those standards do not operate locally?

Under this arrangement, the BBC World Service has agreed not to close any language services – but this condition set to be lifted in 2025.
BBC Director General, Tim Davie, made it clear in a speech in March 2024 that "we cannot keep asking UK Licence Fee payers to invest in (the World Service) when we face cuts to UK services. We will need to discuss a long-term funding solution for the World Service that comes from central government budgets."

- 🔴 LIVE: Prime Minister's Questions with British Sign Language (BSL) - 27 November 2024
- Runtime

- Date posted

Dave Robertson MP, has been asked by the Committee to open the debate. The Government will send a Minister to respond.

What are petition debates?
Petition debates are ‘general’ debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
Petition debates don’t end with a vote to implement the request of a petition. This means that MPs will not vote on the issues raised in the petition at the end of the debate.
The Petitions Committee can only schedule debates on petitions to parliament started on petition.parliament.uk

- Description
- Note: Due to multiple divisions this recording has been edited to remove the breaks in the session.
In this session, the Committee will put the evidence it has heard on the problems in the operation of redress for victims of the Horizon scandal to government ministers and Post Office executives, including the first appearance of new Post Office Chair Nigel Railton.
In its first evidence session of this Parliament the Committee heard moving testimony from former sub-postmasters and their families about the impact of failures in the Horizon accounting system, and the subsequent mis-handling of the problems by the Post Office and Government over two decades. The scandal saw small businesspeople running local post office counters forced to pay out of pocket for significant but false shortfalls arising from systematic IT failures. In some cases they were prosecuted and even jailed for theft and fraud.
