- There were over 10,000 antisemitic incidents across the U.S. within the year following Hamas’s October 7th terrorist attack in Israel. It was the highest number of antisemitic incidents ever recorded in a one-year period since the Anti-Defamation League began tracking back in 1979.
Antisemitism has always been part of the public discussion in America – and across all political lines – says, Oren Segal, senior vice president of Counter-Extremism and Intelligence the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). However, in his decades of experience tracking and combatting antisemitism online and offline at ADL, he has never seen anything like this type of growth in extremism and antisemitism.
Why is this the case?
One of the main contributors to the recent uptick of antisemitic incidents follows an age-old trend: unrest in the Middle East. When there is war in the Middle East, we see backlash in our country, and people target Jews for the actions of the...

Gavriel Rosenfeld, President of the Center for Jewish History, speaks with Your Voice Matters host, Hari Sreenivasan, about historic themes, including free speech on campus and Jews being drawn into larger world events.
