- Tucked away in a residential area of the old part of Tokyo’s Edogawa Ward sits a small metalworking factory. Nishikawa Seiki Seisakusho Co., founded in 1960, consists of four executives and eight employees, and carries out the entire process of designing, cutting, welding, sheet-metal processing and assembly of metallic products. The company has also made a name for itself in the past five years or so for developing original archery bows in Japan.

The facility makes use of the grounds and buildings of the former Tsukuba Higashi Junior High School, which closed in 2018, and consists of Cycle Park Tsukuba and Tsukuba Geo Museum. Mt. Tsukuba Gate Park is becoming a hub that has given the local community a shot in the arm.

Located in a residential area of Honjo in Tokyo’s Sumida Ward, the hotel is a six-story building with one basement level. There are storage rooms on the first floor and in the basement, where artworks are both stored and displayed.

Hoping to raise disaster prevention awareness, the Tokyo metropolitan government organized the Dec. 23 concerts at the Kanda River/Ring Road No. 7 Underground Regulating Reservoir, which is a 4.5-kilometer-long tunnel. The Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association and Tobu Top Tours Co. carried out the event for the first time last fiscal year and this was the first time it has been held this season. The events are held during a relatively dry time of year.

The hotel only accepts one group, up to five people, per night. Three can sleep in the bus and two in the building.

Initially, Kajikaen was a luxurious traditional Japanese restaurant, but it was turned into a ryokan around 1925. During World War II, the facility was used as a company’s dormitory. After the war, ownership transferred to the grandparents of the current owner, Akira Usami, 74, and the cuisine-rich inn was reopened.
