American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh says Turkey was behind last year's sarin gas attack carried out by foreign-backed insurgents in Syria.
In a report published on Sunday in the London Review of Books, Hersh claimed Turkey staged the gas attack to provoke a US war on Syria. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan was known to be supporting the al-Nusra Front, an insurgent group fighting the Syrian government, he said.
According to the report, more than ten members of the al-Nusra Front were arrested last May in southern Turkey with "two kilograms of sarin." But in a news conference last summer, Turkey's ambassador to Moscow Aydin Sezgin dismissed the arrests and told reporters that the recovered "sarin" was merely "anti-freeze," the report said.

- Syria calls on the United Nations to investigate a leaked audio file involving senior Turkish officials. The file allegedly contains discussions by top Turkish authorities on how to fabricate an attack in order to justify a military operation against neighboring Syria.
Ja'fari further slammed some members of the UN Security Council and its secretariat for refusing to hear the truth about the situation in Syria. He said that's because those countries themselves are QOUTE "deeply involved" in spreading terrorism across Syria. This, as Ankara has said the leaked tape is a plot ahead of the country's local elections. Turkish government officials have not denied the discussions in the tape but they say part of the audio file has been manipulated.

- The US has been selective in supporting the self-determination of nations. It continues to dismiss Crimea's choice to reunite with Russia, while at the same time backs the coup in Kiev.
While preaching non-interference to Russia, Washington has been very active in showing its support for, first, protesters in Kiev and then to the coup-appointed government. The US participation in events in Ukraine did not confine itself to distributing snacks to rally participants, or friendly gestures of support.
"We've invested over 5 billion dollars to assist Ukraine in these and other goals that will ensure a secure, prosperous, and democratic Ukraine," Victoria Nuland, Assistant US Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia said in December, 2013.
The announcement has drawn criticism.
