- A proposed five-story apartment complex and accompanying parking structure were approved for Tech Ridge by the St. George Planning Commission earlier this week. While the development aligns with the goal of constructing housing within the developing tech park, some neighbors say they aren’t thrilled with the idea.
Set to be built just south of Black Hill View Park between Donlee Drive and Tech Ridge Drive, the apartment complex covers approximately 5 acres. It's planned to feature 199 units and over 400 parking spaces between an outdoor parking lot and a neighboring multilevel parking garage. - Description
- In the quiet hills near Diamond Valley, a growing sanctuary offers more than shelter — it’s a lifeline for dozens of farm animals rescued from neglect and harsh realities few ever see.
“My motivation behind rescuing the cows and everybody is to give the animals a life they all deserve,” Salty Sanctuary owner and founder Emily Potter said. “They all want to live. They all want to have relationships; they all want to have connections. They’re just big puppies.”
The Salty Sanctuary is home to four female cows, a llama named Samantha, 11 goats between the ages of 4 and 5 and five chickens rescued from various situations in Washington County. The sanctuary also houses two full-size horses, two miniature horses and a zebra. One of the horses, Woody, was nearly euthanized by a former owner after beginning to lose his eyesight.

- New Harmony Fire Department celebrated the arrival of its new fire engine last Saturday morning as firefighters and supporters gave the vehicle its first ceremonial push into the bay at the Fire Station No. 2.
“The push-in ceremony goes back to the times when fire apparatus was steam-powered and horse-powered,” New Harmony Fire Chief Jim Banks explained. “Well, horses don't have an effective reverse gear, right? So they’ve got to disconnect the horses and push the apparatus back into the station. So that's where this history came from.” Written by Jeff Richards Jul 13, 2025

- The prairie dog's sand-colored coat faded into the dusty backdrop of its desert home. But that didn't stop Utah Prairie Dog Recovery Biologist Barbara Sugarman from catching a glimpse as its head popped up from the burrow, adding one more rodent to her count.
"They're such interesting animals, just social-wise" Sugarman told Cedar City News. "I personally think that they're absolutely fascinating — to watch the interactions between them. … I love watching the juveniles. They're so much fun. They haven't quite figured out life yet."
