- Covid-19 has seen many students redundant at home, but two friends, Anastasie Umutoniwase and Mia Benitha Iradukunda, aged 20 and 22 respectively, decided they were going to use the time to their advantage.
The two went from just being high school friends, to housemates and eventually business partners.
In September, they began conducting business, ‘Home Delivery Laundry’, at their home. In order to get clients, they market their services through social media, while friends and family help in spreading the word.

- In 2018, Kevin Rugamba, a.k.a K’Ru, founded Pineapple Undertones, as a fascination for African music. Overtime, the concept has grown to an edutainment platform that seeks to uncover, explore and promote African musical traditions by preserving its past and documenting its present for Africans to take greater ownership of its future.
He has also explored art with graphic designs, designing flyers, a skill he was very deliberate about developing in the past couple of years.
As a community and cultural lead at the African Leadership University, he had the opportunity to co-curate the murals at the university’s new campus that depict various forms of African heritage and culture.

- Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is one of the leading killer disease, causing 17.9 million deaths worldwide, according to WHO.
In Rwanda, around 40 per cent of deaths are caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with 14.1 percent of the NCDs being heart disease.
The triggers, which manifest primarily as heart attacks and strokes, are tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and the harmful use of alcohol. These in turn show up in people as raised blood pressure, elevated blood glucose and overweight and obesity.
World Heart Day is celebrated worldwide, on September 29, of every year.

- In most African countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, women’s basketball is undeniably lagging behind. It is actually rare to find countries with active women leagues in this particular sport.
On the local scene, here in Rwanda, basketball for women is fairly competitive, and as far as the region is concerned, the country is not faring badly.
Though it is not at the level of men’s basketball, there are some trailblazing women defying the odds and showcasing what they can do in the sport.
Point guard Rosine Micomyiza is one of those women making a difference and inspiring the next generation in the game. The 25-year old captains local side the Hoops Rwanda and was part of the milestones they registered last year as the won the Heroes Cup and finished second in the league.
Having played in the local league and also outside Rwanda, Micomyiza has a story to tell as one of the most sought after female basketballers in the country.

Funded by Rwanda Green Fund (FONERWA), the project was designed in 2015 and works started in 2016 and the plan was to complete the two-phased project within five years.
To follow up on the progress on the ground, The New Times visited the location of the multi-billion project.
There was low activity and the local security guards chased The New Times crew, blocking the filming of the progress and works done.
However, from a distance, one could visibly see women watering plants as well as what appears to be paved pedestrian walkways and cycling routes.
The ornamental ponds that had been planned were no longer visible while those that were created a few years ago are now full of bushes looking like a stagnant water source from which two women were fetching water for watering the plants.

- If you are looking around for a legend for the APR basketball team, Aime Karim Nkusi’s name is way up on the list. The famous shooting guard featured for the local outfit for a whopping 10 years, before he went out of Rwanda for new pastures; and later returned and took over the coaching reins at his boyhood club.
Karim Nkusi, 37, a celebrated basketball player is one of those few sports personalities in Rwanda that have the opportunity to serve a club for a long time as player and later on as coach.
He also had a big presence in the national basketball team, in addition to enjoying a lengthy career at APR from 1999 to 2010. Nkusi had short stints in Uganda and in local club Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK), before he could later in 2017 takeover as the head coach of APR volleyball team.
