- Rwandan author Antoine Mugesera shares powerful reflections as Ibuka marks 30 years of existence.
He emphasizes that this milestone should go beyond celebration—it should be a moment of honest assessment, or what is often referred to as a “bilan”:
– What has been achieved
– What challenges remain
– What more needs to be done
Over the past three decades, Ibuka has made significant progress in supporting genocide survivors through education, economic empowerment, justice, and advocacy. Many survivors have rebuilt their lives, accessed education, and achieved self-reliance.
However, Mugesera stresses that the work is not finished.
He also reflects on deeper historical questions surrounding the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, challenging narratives about identity and highlighting the role of governance, manipulation, and ideology in shaping events.
“Genocide was not inevitable,” he explains. “It ...

At the time, Jain said, artificial intelligence was largely driven by big technology companies, while governments, particularly in developing countries, lacked access to the infrastructure, skills, and institutional capacity needed to use AI effectively.
The organisation was created to address that gap by focusing exclusively on public-sector applications of AI. India became its first area of operation.
Rather than working as an external vendor, Wadhwani AI Global embedded itself within government systems, working closely with ministries to identify problems, design solutions, deploy tools, build internal capacity, and evaluate outcomes over time.

- President Paul Kagame has said that government oversight of religious institutions is meant to ensure accountability and protect citizens from exploitation, not to suppress faith.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, March 25, while addressing members of the Muslim community during an engagement held as part of celebrations marking the end of Eid al-Fitr.
Kagame dismissed claims that Rwanda is restricting religious freedom, insisting that the government’s role is to ensure proper functioning of faith-based institutions.
“Some people misunderstood this and claimed that Rwanda persecutes religions and churches, but that is not true. Our goal... is to put things in the right order. We do not deny anyone peace.”
The President pointed to past cases where self-proclaimed religious leaders misled followers and operated without accountability, saying such practices undermine the true purpose of religion.

Camp Zaïre was not just a settlement; it was a lived cultural space, forged through decades of movement between Rwanda and what was then Zaïre, now the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). For its residents, the name evoked belonging, familiarity, and the subtle rhythm of daily life.
Today, little of that world remains visible. The physical structures are gone, replaced by roads, power lines, and commercial development tied to Kigali’s rapid urban expansion. Yet for those who lived there, Camp Zaïre endures vividly in memory, language, and shared histories.
