- Hope Family Health Center in McAllen is a nonprofit safety net clinic where no patient is ever turned away for inability to pay. Rio Grande City native Dr. Alberto "Beto" Gutierrez, 84, worked at the clinic for 24 years. For the last 15 or so years he was its medical director. He retired earlier this year. The Rio Grande Guardian sat down for a conversation with Gutierrez about his early years as a family practice doctor in Carlsbad, New Mexico, his return to the Rio Grande Valley, the importance of Hope, and his ongoing consultancy work for DHR Health. In the interview he even gives advice to legislators ahead of the 89th legislative session.

- South Texas College held its 3rd Annual Workforce Summit in McAllen on Nov. 22, 2024. The emcee was Carlos Margo, dean of industry and economic development at the college. In an interview immediately following the summit, Margo spoke about the work of his department and his efforts to get more employers in the Rio Grande Valley interested in the apprenticeship program.

- Gilberto Salinas, the new CEO of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, has taken a trip down memory lane to recount his early efforts, now over a decade ago, to bring SpaceX to Boca Chica and Brownsville. Salinas as No. 2 at the Brownsville EDC at the time. Salinas recalled his discussions with Elon Musk at an Insights Unplugged event. It was hosted jointly by GBIC, UT-Rio Grande Valley, and the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation.
