- In April 15, 2019, a devastating fire destroyed its roof, spire, and parts of its interior. The fire sparked a global outpouring of support for restoration, with reconstruction efforts aiming to restore the cathedral by 2024, coinciding with the Paris Olympics. Although a little bit later than scheduled, the cathedral opens this weekend , 7 December. Here are some of the fascinating facts about its reconstruction.

- For the last few years, large sections of the French coastline, in particular in Brittany, have been swamped by toxic green algae. Scientists say it forms due to a glut of chemical waste from intensive farming that spills into the sea. RFI met French photographer Alice Pallot, who is exposing the problem thanks to an unusual and surprisingly beautiful perspective. Her work is part of La Gacilly Photo Festival until 3 November 2024. - In 1851, the French physicist Léon Foucault provided an experimental proof of the earth’s rotation through his famous pendulum experiment. Although known the world over for this ingenious experiment, Fouacult also made several important contributions to physics including the discovery of eddy currents as well as measuring the speed of light. Foucault is one of the 72 scientists whose names are engraved on the sides of the Eiffel tower.
