- Description
- Like sun-dried tomatoes, capers, tahini, miso paste and sriracha before it, matcha has moved from a niche ingredient in the U.S. to a pantry staple. Fifteen years ago, a bar devoted to various incarnations of matcha — a powder made from young, finely ground Japanese green tea leaves — probably would not have found a home in the Centennial Hills neighborhood of Las Vegas.
But today, the greening of Centennial Hills is proceeding apace with the recent opening of Leev Matcha Atelier on Norman Rockwell Lane. The bar takes its name, in part, from the surname of founder Lotus Leevantan; the Leev Matcha team is also behind the Coffee Religion coffee shops in Centennial Hills, in Henderson and on West Charleston Boulevard.
“I wanted to create a space where people could experience matcha the way it’s meant to be, with a focus on quality and intention,” Leevantan said in a recent announcement. “After traveling to Japan multiple times, it was important to me ...

- Looking at the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin, one may not think of Nevada as a hot spot for fishing.
Sure, the desert doesn’t have Minnesota’s 11,842 lakes, but it does have a surprising amount of lakes, streams, rivers and other waterways full of trout, bass and more, with dozens of fishable species.
In Nevada, all you need is a pole and a license. If you’re a local, annual fishing licenses can be purchased for $41 for those 18 and older, and $9 for a one-day permit. Youth licenses can be purchased for $15, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. You can avoid daily fees on Saturday, June 13, this year’s Free Fishing Day.

- MGM Resorts has ideas beyond the status quo for Bruno Mars.
We learned this in a Teams chat this week with MGM Resorts International President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle. The company’s team leader is taking part in Friday afternoon’s Bruno Mars Drive celebration at Toshiba Square, outside T-Mobile Arena.
Mars of course has consistently sold out Dolby Live at Park MGM, across the way from the new Bruno Mars Drive. The Pinky Ring, where Mars often performs pop-up shows and his Hooligans frequently headline, is a nightlife success story at Bellagio.
And the company wants more Bruno activity as he launches “The Romantic” tour Friday and Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.
Hornbuckle was asked if Mars will eventually return to residency at Dolby Live, where he has headlined since New Year’s Eve weekend 2016.
“I would certainly believe and hope so,” the exec said. “We are all-in on Bruno, and I think he’s all-in on MG...

- Nevada’s largest and most respected craft beer festival, started by Las Vegas beer enthusiasts, has been sold. Another Vegas beer gathering, also a staple of the city’s festival calendar, is disappearing as a result of the sale.
On Tuesday, Motley Brews announced the sale of its Vegas portfolio — Great Vegas Festival of Beer and Downtown Brew Festival — to Brothers Molloy Events, which will produce the Great Vegas Festival going forward. Downtown Brew Festival will be folded into Great Vegas to create a single expanded event.
Brothers Molloy produces large beer festivals across the U.S. For the past three years, it has operated the festivals alongside Motley Brews.
“This felt like the natural next step for the festival,” Brian Chapin, founder of Motley Brews, said in the announcement. “We’ve spent years building Great Vegas into what it is today. It was incredible to watch it — and the craft brew scene — grow year after year ...
