- Sacramento, CA – The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced today the arrest of a suspect in connection with the 2022 homicide of 20-year-old Corey Shearer in Rancho Cordova. After an extensive investigation, 19-year-old Amyis Coogler of Sacramento has been formally charged in Shearer's death.
On August 5, 2022, deputies and officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department were called to a shooting at a home on the 3000 block of Ramsgate Way. Upon arrival, they found Shearer on the front lawn with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Shearer was pronounced dead.
"The victim, later identified as 20-year-old Corey Shearer, was discovered lying on the front lawn of the residence with several gunshot wounds," the Sheriff's Office stated in a media release.

When Engine 4 arrived, they reported heavy fire coming from an outbuilding or garage on the left side of a two-story, boarded-up apartment structure, according to radio reports.
The fire extended to the main structure and got into the attic.
Crews had their hands full, and a 2nd Alarm was struck, bringing additional apparatus, manpower and chief officers.
