- SACRAMENTO (PSN)— Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews have contained a roadside vegetation fire Friday evening in the area of Bell Avenue and Cottage Way.
Firefighters quickly stopped forward progress of the flames and are currently mopping up hot spots. No injuries have been reported, and no structures were threatened.
Roadways remain open; however, drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while passing through the area as firefighters continue operations.
Metro Fire has not yet released the cause of the fire. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

- SOUTH SACRAMENTO (PSN) — A man died Wednesday morning after being shot outside a liquor store on Franklin Boulevard, authorities said.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies were called about 8:15 a.m. to the 6100 block of Franklin Boulevard, where they found the victim on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies began CPR before the man was transported to UC Davis Medical Center. He later died, Sgt. Amar Gandhi said.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument inside or near the liquor store, Gandhi said during a press briefing. The dispute did not involve store employees.
Witnesses gave deputies a description of a suspect vehicle that included a distinctive feature: a spare tire strapped on top. Deputies spotted the car nearby and detained two men believed to be involved. Gandhi said investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

Firefighters were dispatched to 4424 Jasper Court, where they arrived to find heavy fire in the attic that had already spread into the home’s main living area. Crews quickly entered the structure, conducted a primary search and began suppression efforts, Metro Fire said.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home but was contained before it could spread further. The woman was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
Metro Fire’s arson investigation team is working to determine the cause, which remains undetermined. Crews are expected to remain on scene to conduct overhaul operations and check for hidden fire.

- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A bicyclist was taken into custody early Saturday morning after leading Sacramento police officers on a pursuit through Midtown.
Just before 1:15 a.m., officers attempted to stop the rider near 17th Street and Victorian Alley for a traffic violation, police said. The bicyclist refused to stop and was pursued through several blocks, at one point tossing objects from his pockets that appeared to be drug bindles, according to police radio traffic monitored by Public Safety News.
The chase ended under the Highway 50 freeway when the suspect, out of breath and sweating heavily, was detained on 18th Street between W and X streets.
Sacramento police said the adult male was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of a traffic violation, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, just after 12:30 a.m. on August 28, officers attempted to stop a man riding a bicycle near 24th Street and Fruitridge Road for a traffic violation. The rider refused to stop and pedaled into the intersection against a red light, where he struck a vehicle.
Police said the suspect immediately fled the scene on foot but was detained a short distance away. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the suspect was on active parole, had multiple outstanding warrants, and was in possession of narcotics at the time of the incident. After receiving medical clearance, he was booked into jail on related charges.

- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — Just after midnight Monday morning, the Sacramento Fire Department responded to a commercial vehicle fire along westbound Interstate 80, just west of the West El Camino on-ramp.
When crews arrived, a semi-truck bobtail — operating without a trailer — was fully engulfed in flames on the right-hand shoulder. The driver had already escaped the cab before firefighters arrived.
The blaze spread into nearby vegetation, forcing firefighters to battle both the truck fire and a brush fire at the same time. Three engines, one truck company and a battalion chief were on scene. Both fires were brought under control shortly after their arrival.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 3:00 a.m. in the 300 block of K Street, near 4th Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen and possibly the back or chest, according to police radio traffic.
Approximately an hour later, a second victim was found near 5th and J Streets, also suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where their condition remains unknown.
