- 40,000 students returned to classrooms across The Bahamas today as the 2026–2027 school year gets underway.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Chester Cooper made the announcement at the start of the Back-to-School Tour, following his national address last night, titled “The Revolution in Education.”
This morning, Cooper said the government is not trying to “reinvent the wheel” when it comes to education, but wants to develop students who are not only focused on passing exams, but are also equipped with a mission to become owners and creators of opportunities.

- The Department of Immigration repatriated 104 Haitian nationals today: 76 men, 27 women and one girl.
Assistant Director of Immigration, Chad Adams said those repatriated had already gone through due process, including court proceedings and the completion of any fines or sentences.
More than 2,000 people have been repatriated so far this year as immigration operations continue across The Bahamas.

Porter was suspended last week Tuesday (August 18th) following an investigation launched into his overtime hours at BPL.
