- Isabelle, a young tenure-track professor, tests the limits of free speech by encouraging her students to contribute to an unmoderated discussion group, even as her wife, Lee, advises caution. When an anonymous student posts offensive comments and videos, Isabelle must decide whether to intervene or to let the social experiment play out. Soon, the posts turn abusive and threatening, leading Isabelle and her unknown tormentor to engage in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse that not only have Isabelle questioning her beliefs, but fearing for her life.
This event was a policy discussion spurred by the themes surfaced by Norman Yeung's gripping play THEORY playing at Mosaic Theater Company of DC. We explored digital free-speech and the lines between complicity and culpability.

- NYU Washington, DC and Solas Nua co-hosted the U.S. launch of a new collection of poetry by critically acclaimed and award-winning Irish poet, Jane Clarke. Jane read excerpts from her latest book, When the Tree Falls and took questions from the audience. A light reception and book signing followed the program. This event was free and open to the public. RSVP was required.
Jane Clarke’s lyrically eloquent poems bear witness to the rhythms of birth and death, celebration and mourning, endurance and regrowth. An elegiac sequence, inspired by the loss of her father, moves gracefully through this second collection. Rooted in the everyday and backlit by mystery, here are poems to savour and return to, for the pleasure of finely honed lines that powerfully evoke the depth of our connections to people, place and nature.

Abernathy MacGregor and New York University Washington, DC, joined together for a panel discussion featuring professionals who work at the nexus of business and politics. The events of 9/11 transformed life in the United States —and with it, U.S. law enforcement, especially the FBI. After the attacks, the FBI, once made famous by prosecuting organized crime and corruption, shifted its focus to the disruption of terrorist activity. The problem: their strategy relies upon the discredited theory of “radicalization.” By targeting Muslims, foreigners, communities of color, and dissidents, the FBI pitted American communities against one another. And it ignored the threat of white nationalist violence.
In his new book, Disrupt, Discredit, and Divide, German details the transformation of the FBI from a law enforcement body into a secretive domestic i...
