- Description
- Nebraska’s pursuit of a Big Ten regular-season championship took a hit Tuesday night with an 80-77 overtime loss to Purdue.
The Huskers trailed by 22 points early in the second half before mounting a furious comeback to force overtime. In the end, however, rebounding and second-chance opportunities proved decisive.
“When I look at the box score, you give them 21 offensive rebounds, you turn the ball over 14 times and that’s the game,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said. “When you give a team that many extra bullets, it’s hard to come out on top.”
Purdue dominated the glass, winning the overall rebounding battle 54-37, including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The Boilermakers finished with 33 defensive rebounds to Nebraska’s 37 total boards, creating a significant possession gap.
“When you have that many more possessions than somebody else, the odds are it’s going to help you,” Purdue coach Matt Painter sai...

No. 7 Nebraska erased a 22-point second-half deficit to get the game to overtime before No. 13 Purdue rallied for an 80-77 overtime win Tuesday night.
The Huskers (21-3. 10-3) trailed 46-24 with 18:55 remaining before mounting a frantic comeback. NU used an 18-2 run to get within 57-53 with 5:20 left after a Sam Hoiberg basket, only to see Purdue seemingly take control with a 10-0 run highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from C.J. Cox.
Nebraska trailed 67-63 with 2:45 left in regulation before making one last run, outscoring the Boilermakers, 15-1 down the stretch as Rienk Mast and Jamarques Lawrence, who combined for 12 of the Huskers final 15 points in regulation.
Mast’s putback with 12.8 seconds left in regulation pulled NU even at 68, but the senior, who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists, was unable to complete the 3-point play and NU forced a stop to send the ga...

The Huskers open the 2026 season Friday night at the MLB Desert Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona, beginning a four-game stretch at Major League spring training facilities. Nebraska opens against UConn on Friday, followed by games against Northeastern on Saturday, Grand Canyon on Sunday and Stanford on Monday.
“I think the beginning of last year it was more like, ‘What can I do to help myself out?’ instead of doing anything I can for the team,” Nebraska pitcher Ty Horn said. “I think I kind of figured that out toward the end of last year.”
Horn will get the opening-night start as Nebraska begins the season away from home for the second straight year. The Huskers practiced outdoors this week at Haymarket Park with unseasonably warm February temperatures, a welcome change before playing the first three weeks of the season on natural grass.

“It’s an old, experienced group that’s played together for a long time, and Matt Painter is as good as anybody in this business,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said Monday. “They absolutely handed it to us last year — embarrassed us on their home court — and we’re going to have to be on point. It’s very important we get off to a good start.”
Nebraska (21-2, 10-2 Big Ten) snapped a two-game skid Saturday with an 80-68 road win at Rutgers. “Two good teams and great competition,” head coach Mark Manning said. “It’ll be a chance to see what we’re all about.”
Following a record-setting 2025 campaign — including a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships, two individual national titles and a program-best eight All-Americans — Nebraska returns this season energized and prepared. Through seven matches, the Huskers are 5–2 and riding a two-dual win streak heading into the marquee weekend.
“A lot of times you’re still trying to figure out your team in January,” Manning said. “We know what our team’s all about. I really like where we’re at, and we’re just going to get better and better. Sunday will be a great meas...

Nebraska offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and several players addressed the situation Tuesday, offering perspective on what the move means for the program and reflecting on Raiola’s two seasons in Lincoln.
Holgorsen said the staff enjoyed working with Raiola and appreciated his commitment. “He’s a great kid and gave a lot to this place for two years,” he said. Holgorsen added that Raiola’s decision reflects the broader state of college football. “Just look at what’s going on across the landscape. I don’t know how many quarterbacks have popped in the portal that were starting at their school. It’s the new norm,” he said.
Senior wide receiver Dane Key, who transferred to Nebraska from Kentucky last year, emphasized there are no hard feelings. “What Dylan had to do was what he and his family believed ...
