- Lincoln Public Schools is set to introduce a new math pilot program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade at five elementary schools: Cavett, Pershing, Randolph, Roper and Zeman. The initiative aims to identify and address potential challenges within the large district.
"In a district this size, it's really hard to have a brand new program that we haven’t been through a full year with 1,000 different teachers and 40 different buildings all doing something new at the same time," said LPS K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Specialist, Josh Males.

- The Lincoln Board of Education has unveiled its preliminary budget for the 2025-2026 school year, proposing a $.07 reduction in the total levy, which would bring it to a historic low of $1.04 per $100 in property valuation. The proposal was presented during a work session by Liz Standish, Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs.
"We lost about $32 million in state aid last year. We had to raise the levy. The impact for the homeowner was about $250 over the 12th month, over a one-year span. This year we're estimating it at $8, but it really depends on what each home's valuation does and what our final levy turns out to be when we get to the end of this process in August," said Standish.

High above the diamond in the press box sits Bill Jensen, the longtime public address announcer fans have come to know and recognize. Before the crowds arrive and before a single batter is announced, Jensen is already at work — often three hours ahead of first pitch.
“There’s a lot of prep work,” Jensen said. “People think it’s just saying, ‘Now batting, Jimmy Smith,’ but it’s much more than that.”

- Mindin, NEB- It was the best of the best — all on one court. The 2025 New West All-Star Classic brought together top high school volleyball talent from across the region for a final showcase before many of these athletes take the next step in their careers.
But the night was about more than just volleyball. The event also raised awareness and support for the Kidney Association — future stars playing for a powerful cause.
Minden High School played host to the four-team all-star tournament.
In the third-place match, it was the Republican Plains Activity Conference taking on the Lou-Platte Conference.
