- “As long as the monthly charge doesn’t get exorbitant we’ll use it as a back up. But we don’t need it. We can get by without it," says Yeager.
Last year, Yeager decided to start putting 44,000 watts of power together on his own. He created a solar panel system that energizes his home and shop.
”So it’s enough to run what I need, plus charge a couple electric vehicles, when the sun is shining."
Building and creating have always been a part of Alec Yeager's everyday life growing up on this Southwest Nebraska farm, traits that come naturally.
"My dad and I made most of our farm equipment. My uncle was a blacksmith. My grandfather was a blacksmith."
Yeager’s innovative farm ideas grew to him realizing that the sky’s the limit.

- Nebraska coach Matt Rhule wants his team to carry a “killer instinct” into Saturday’s game against Houston Christian.
Previewing the matchup with the FCS opponent, Rhule pointed to another Nebraskan chasing history this weekend — Omaha native Terence “Bud” Crawford. The boxer is moving up multiple weight classes to face Canelo Álvarez in a bid to become the first male unified champion in three different divisions.
“Don’t just sit there and hope that you get accolades,” Rhule said. “Risk it all. Risk it all to be great.”
Rhule said that mindset is what he wants from the Huskers all season. He emphasized playing a full 60 minutes and not letting an opponent gain life.
“You put away the people you’re supposed to put away,” Rhule said. “They’re supposed to walk up to their A.D. and be like, ‘Don’t schedule them again.’ That’s the mentality we’re supposed to have.”

The 68 points were the Huskers’ most in a game since scoring 73 against Idaho State in 2012. Nebraska piled up 728 yards of total offense, the eighth-highest mark in program history.

Originally found in eastern states like Iowa and Minnesota, tar spot has gradually moved westward, with recent reports from Buffalo, Dawson and Custer counties.
Katelyn Duffy, CPI Precision Agronomy manager, highlighted the significance of the discovery. "We were the first to be able to identify tar spot [in the area] and also send it in for confirmation. It is a nasty disease that will can cause up to 50% yield loss if it's not caught soon enough and taken care of," she said.

- The Kansas City Royals are chasing a playoff berth and could soon get a boost from their top draft pick a year ago, Jack Caglione. But before the power-hitting prospect can join the big-league lineup, he has to master a new position — the outfield.
Caglione, known as “Jack Cags,” has been working on the transition this summer with the Royals' Triple-A team, the Omaha Storm Chasers. A natural infielder and pitcher, he has spent the last several weeks learning the intricacies of the outfield with the help of Royals coach Rusty Kuntz, a former big leaguer who played in the 1980s.
“I’m pretty comfortable out there,” Caglione said. “There are still some plays I’m not used to seeing. It’s a lot different than first, but that’s the learning process. Thankfully, Rusty’s out here helping me.”
The Royals value Caglione’s bat — he has already shown home run power in Triple-A — but need him to become dependable defensively before...

- Nebraska volleyball opens its season in historic fashion, playing its first-ever match at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday in the AVCA First Serve Showcase. The top-ranked Huskers face a stiff test against No. 3 Pittsburgh, which is coming off a 33-2 season and its fourth straight NCAA semifinal appearance.
The Panthers return AVCA National Player of the Year Olivia Babcock and a roster that coach Dan Fisher has bolstered with new additions.
Nebraska enters a new era under first-year head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, who takes over after two decades under John Cook. Busboom Kelly is no stranger to Fisher, having faced him annually while coaching at Louisville.
“I just think we made each other better,” Fisher said. “They exposed stuff that we didn’t see against some other teams, and I think we were able to do the same against them.”
The matchup is steeped in history, as Nebraska has won all 14 previous meetings against Pitt. But t...

- Nebraska volleyball is preparing to make its debut at Pinnacle Bank Arena, a stage the program has never played on before. While the Huskers have hosted games at Memorial Stadium and the Devaney Sports Center, Friday’s matchup against Pitt will mark the first time the team takes the court in the 16,000-seat arena.
“24 hours from now, 16,000 fans will pack it out, seeing Big Red and PBA for the first time,” Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom-Kelly said. “I feel like we’ve done everything as a program, and this is one thing I get to do as a head coach, so that’s pretty cool.”
Team captains say the experience feels monumental.
“It feels like we’re in December already, like a Final Four environment,” junior setter Bergren Reilly said. “We know the fans are going to bring it, which will make it even better.”
Being named captain is an honor, the players said, but not the team’s ultimate goal.
“It’s a...

- Governor Pillen announced that the Department of Homeland Security is creating an ICE detention facility akin to 'Alligator Alcatraz' in McCook. The facility would replace the existing Work Ethic Camp detention facility and would increase its capacity from 200 beds to around 300. Pillen called the move a triumph for border security in the U.S.
"We're simply doing our part to get these people the heck out of get them off of our streets, get them out of our communities and get them the heck out of here," said Pillen.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said earlier this month that Nebraska was on her short list of places for additional ICE facilities, and said that they were looking for a place with proximity to an airport. On Noem's X account she already embraced the nickname of 'Cornhusker Clink' and shared a post about it. Pillen says that he doesn't know if men, women, or children would be detained in the facility, but said there wouldn't be any ...
