- Description
- India’s E20 petrol debate has taken a new turn.Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran has backed bringing E10 petrol back for older vehicles, while allowing newer vehicles to continue using E20.The argument is not that E20 is wrecking engines. The CEA says the evidence does not support widespread engine damage and estimates the energy penalty at around 6–7%, not the much larger figures circulating online. But older pre-BS4 two-wheelers — particularly carburettor-based vehicles — present a different challenge. And that leads to the bigger question: how far should India take ethanol blending?Beyond E20, higher blends could increase demand for grain-based ethanol and raise questions over land, water, food, farmers and energy security. Is E10 a sensible bridge for the older fleet? Should India hold at E20 while it studies the food-versus-fuel trade-off? And what does the ethanol industry say about rolling back the blend?

The move follows the recent West Asia conflict and disruption to LPG imports, which exposed India's dependence on overseas supplies. India consumed around 33.2 million tonnes of LPG in 2025-26, while domestic production was only around 13.1 million tonnes. That meant more than 64% of India's LPG requirement was met through imports. Now, the government has created a facility-wise production framework that can be activated during an LPG shortage or supply disruption.

- Why did India's Gen Z take to the streets?
In this exclusive conversation with News9, Congress MP Vivek Tankha discusses the youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar and the growing frustration among India's young population.
Tankha says the protest was the result of "youth frustration" that had been building for a long time, and argues that the government failed to recognise the concerns of young Indians.
He also speaks about Sonam Wangchuk's participation, saying his entry transformed the protest into a wider public movement. Tankha questions the government's decision to prevent Wangchuk from marching towards Parliament and says the government should have reached out to students in the initial days of the protest.
In the interview, Tankha also discusses the BJP's political position, the growing influence of Gen Z and the role of religion in the students' protest.

- his Independence Day, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is asking a simple but powerful question: What does freedom mean to a child who still does not have access to a functioning toilet, clean drinking water, electricity or even a safe road to school?
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has launched a new campaign called 'School Thik Karo' (Fix Our Schools), focusing on improving government schools in rural India.
The campaign adopts a hands-on, community-driven approach. Instead of relying entirely on the government, CJP is encouraging parents, villagers and local communities to assess the condition of schools in their own areas.
The initiative aims to identify gaps in basic infrastructure, including classrooms, toilets, drinking water, electricity, furniture and road connectivity.
According to Dipke, improving rural education requires active community participation, with local residents working alongside elected representatives to ensure that...

The students’ objection was linked to remarks made by the CJI during Supreme Court proceedings concerning alleged police action against protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

- BENGALURU PROPOSES NEW PARKING RULES | RESIDENTIAL PARKING COULD COST ₹25,000
- Runtime

- Description
- Bengaluru may soon put a price on something most motorists take for granted — parking on the road outside your home.
The Karnataka government has notified the draft Greater Bengaluru Area Parking Rules, 2026, and if implemented, parking on public roads will no longer necessarily be free.
Under the proposed system, residents could need an annual parking permit to park outside their homes.
The proposed fee ranges from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a year, depending on the vehicle — ₹15,000 for small cars, ₹20,000 for sedans and ₹25,000 for SUVs.
And there is a catch.
Not every resident may automatically qualify. The draft says residential parking permits may be issued only to residents whose buildings comply with prescribed parking requirements under building bye-laws.
For parking outside residential areas, the proposed charges are also significant.
